LPB? Ticks?
Reply with quote

Hello!

Can someone explain to me what the LPB and Ticks sections are all about? Also, how can it be used to my advantage and can it be changed via effects. I can understand what BPM means, obviously.

Thanks!

LPB = I'm sure this is Lines Per Beat
And ticks are to do with... Well, it's a sort of Bits Per Line...
Uh...

How to use/alter tempo

Im not sure about the abreviations, but this is how you can play around with them:

Look for "features" and then "effects" in the helpfile. Or look below...

Effect: "0F" will enable you to set tempo,LPB and ticks in your song.

Example:

C#4 .. .. ....
... .. 0F xxyz
... .. .. ....

x = Tempo (BPM)
y = LPB
z = Ticks

Very Happy - Martin

LPB, Ticks?

I use the 0F effect all the time to change the tempo, but I always put 00 for the y and z values. Anybody have any clues to what Ticks and LPB do and how I can use them to my advantage?

Thanks so far for the great answers!

Increasing both LPB (lines per beat) basically gives you a higher resolution to work with, good if you need to do complex drum patterns for instance, where there's a difference if the drum hits on beat or 2/8 before. The ticks is the value on how many times Madtracker updates an effect (all explained in the help, under the "main window" section Wink) meaning a higher number here = higher quality fx (if I understood it correctly)

About LPB, consider this scenario:

BPM is 60
LPB is 10

meaning, in one beat you have 10 lines to work with (LPB=10) = an intervall of 100ms between each beat is possible (since 60sec/60bpm=1sec). Means a new sound every 100ms can be played.

another example:
BPM = 120
LPB = 16

one beat = 16 lines to work with. Since one beat is 0,5 sec long => 60sec/120bpm=0,5 =>0,5/16=31ms between each line. Means you can have a new sound play every 31ms

I've never used the possibility to change LPB or ticks on the fly, so I don't know what benefits it would have, but I can imagine one could create pretty groovy house beats for instance using this.

Exclamation Changing tick value on the fly can create nice variations, as it can really affect the sound, but be careful if you want your tune to be an exact tempo all the way through, as it seems to affect the tempo, so therefore makes the tune useless for exporting to sequence with other stuff. But yeah, it's ok for creating samples and loops. Smile

Why don't you try it and tell us? Seriously you just answered your own question, pretty much.
