Hi all,

I guess that like almost all of us, I nowadays heavily use VST instruments in my tracks. Therefore I think we (the madtracker community) could have a lot of own made presets to swap.

As those .fxp files are quite small, couldn't it be possible to have some webspace somewhere on madtracker.org where we could upload (and download) own made presets for all those various softsynths & FXs we all *love* to use nowadays ?

Besides this, it could attract other VST freaks... and therefore advertise Madtracker even more !

Best regards, TNK

P.S. : What about a VST-only .mt2 upload zone ? Those MT2s are quite small, so once again, the webspace shoudn't be a problem.

Agreed on the preset section! About the hosting of .mt2 files with vst, I still use sampled drums very often, so my files can still get pretty big. However, hosting them yourself and being able to post 'em in the music section (with a listing of which vst's are used) seems nice.

Good idea! However, I see one potentially major problem. Since presets are so easy to make and everyone of course thinks their sound is da bomb, there is a huge risk that such a system would become cluttered with bad data so to speak, and thus in the end it would become useless. How do you propose to battle this? I doubt there are many who would like to go through hundreds of presets to find that one sound, which in the end they probably, with a little practice, could create themselves.

Exactly. And maybe .mp3 / .ogg exemples.
Something like hammersound deals with it's soundfont library should work well.

The ogg/mp3 samples are definetly a good idea, if not even necessary imo.

But, for a review/score-based system to work you'd have to have a community that actually does rate / review the stuff actively. And in this case it wouldn't be enough that just two or three people do the scoring semi-actively, like the case seems to be in the music section these days. An average rating imo doesn't start to be the actual average untill 10-15 people have given a rating.

It's not that I'm completely dead against having a VST-presets system. I'm just trying to highlight possible pittfalls that might cause a system similar to the music section is right now, where it doesn't serve it's purpose anymore. Wink

I agree with Sunbuster, lets see how many presetpacks actually will be uploaded before we start contructing elaborate rating schemes. Often a simple directory is sufficient.

this is a great idea!

maby the presets could be linked to the plugin database, that way it's all nice and intergrated Smile

I'm not talking elaborate reviews, more like comments. Or maybe rating the preset 1-10 or something. I'm not gonna write a big review for a preset, but saying something like 'this preset is exactly what i've been looking for!' isn't too much work for me.

Reviews was a bit too strong, I was talking about comments also. Although hopefully they'd say a bit more than "this is exactly what I was looking for". Wink

But take a look at the VST database. I'm sure it's one of the most visited pages on madtracker.org, with a lot of downloads. Still there is a distinct absence of rated plugins, not to mention comments. But maybe people have missed the option to rate the plugin in their fast and furious search for the next instrument/effect... Rolling Eyes

I did some for Subduer, Majken included them in the last beta6 release. Always fun to do presets. A preset section would be very helpful! Wink
