OK, this is a thread that will hopefully feed into a new improved MT helpfile FX Command section...

Post your Questions AND Answers here.

Cool

After talking to Inge, about creating a better help file, FX Commands is one topic that hasn't been addressed, and we believe it's a key strength of a tracker...

This isn't just about me, as I have spent some years working commands out, although I wish there was a better help file in the beginning to explain better, and I could still learn much more about how to use them.

OK, How about stuff like...

When you use a command to change BPM, how do you translate the bpm you want?

How do you do the timestretch effect using offset? (Don't answer that one, BinarPilot has a good tutorial - but you may have more tips on that)

Did you know that changing tick value actually stops your tempo being constant, thus making wav export for sequencing with other progs useless?

How do you use portmento? do you have to put a command on each line or just the notes you're sliding?

What about the gapper/weird command? Do you have to put a command on each line?

etc etc, I'll think of more when I got time. Feel free to add to this every body... and QBical, your expertise on this is most welcome! Very Happy

Hmmz, ok I get your point now, there had been some additional commands lately ( for example adressing VST plugins )
So this might be documented a bit better.
But let me answer some of your questions, the ones that I can answer that is Smile

This is pretty clear in the help file, '0F XXYZ' where XX is the BPM in hexidecimals, Y is LPB and Z is Ticks...
Just use the windows calculater, set it on scientific mode, enter the desired BPM in the window and click on the HEX button. And pronto you have your hex number. Wink
This works with all hex numbers BTW.

Indeed BinarPilot wrote a great tut about it, but my advice is get a sample, and get streching see and hear how it works as you alter the parameters...

This is untrue to my knowledge, if you play the track a while the BPM value will be listed in the BPM box, note that if you hold your mouse over it, it will show the BPM at that point in the track, when the mouse is not over it, it will show the global BPM rate...

Try both way's and hear the difference Smile

Never used it before sorry...

Nice. Thanks for that tip. I usually guess up and down until I get it right. Not any more.

I think I get you... I was referring to using change tick rate in command "0F" in different patterns seems to actually change the timing slightly, or at least it did before Yannick fixed the BPM thing. The reason I use change tick 0F command was that you can make instruments change their sound, when they have loops on, if you vary the tick value of the patterns.

See, this needs explaining.

Try it. very good for intricate rythmic stuff.

Beatmax had a great list of panning positions, too, somewhere. Anyone use that?

Not all ft2 effects is listed here (like gxx, rxx, hxx, lxx, pxx, txx + more). I can't say about the .it format, since I don't know that format too well...

http://www.berotracker.de/wiki/MOD/XM_effects#Effect_list

Anyway, what I wanted was a complete list included in MT2 help file.

PyroZane: indeed. Yannick: why didn't we list the complete file in the help manual anyway?

This thread is interesting. Please keep everything (questions, answers, tips, et cetera) coming, so I can make a nice tutorial out of it.
