Good god I was stupid when I made these posts. This is why 10 year olds shouldn't be on the internet.

You'll find the wav export can give you a lot better quality. The OGG is only 128kh |

Exactly. Wav export will give you 192kHz @ 24 bit provided your soundcard supports it. The ogg you get is nowhere near enough in quality if you plan to actually go somewhere with your music (mixing in another program, mastering etc.) |

Because I can just export as a OGG and bring it into audacity .But I'm still buying the basic registration to support madtracker 3! And it would be cool to have a website and a email address at madtracker.org. EDIT: Audacity is free. Just thought you might want to know.

The quality will suffer as has been pointed out if you do this.
However, why not just save it as a midi-file?
Then open it up in another aplication that supports the
midi-format. Then, change the midi-instruments back to its orginal samples/instruments/VSTi:s, then wav-export from that program.
I have done this with many of my songs that has orginaly been created using Ft2 & Mt2 but witch I in the end wanted to finish & mix with sonar.
Then of course, sonar is a rahter expensive program. Maybe there are other programs however, that supports midi AND has wav-output possibilities that are free.
Just like you, though, I have often though about registrering MT2. The fact that the project seem to be dead, however, gives me second thoughts.
I need to tell you I once was a true believer of the Skale-tracker ... if you visit their home page www.skale.org, you will see a nice message claiming "website will be back soon"...
Sure enough .. that message has now been there for almost 3 years and still the devs (appering in the forums once in a while) claims the project is not dead!
Now that´s just nonsense. I fear mt2 (including mt3) has silently died the in a similar way. |

Three words: Record "Stereo Mix". Call me naive, but I believe the majority of people who've bought MT2 would've regardless of whether the wav-export function was included or not. It's more a way of showing appreciation for someone's hard work than anything else. MT2 is a fantastic tracker, and as a person who've spent an epic amount of hours using it, I would gladly pay the registration fee over again regardless of whether MT3 sees the light of day or not. |

It's not cheating Yannick, cos you still are not getting top quality export. If you want that, you pay a the small price. |

I use Audacity and I think the quality is fine! I mean yeah, the wav export is better, but by exactly how much? I don't think there's that big of a difference in the quality that we HAVE to register to get anywhere with our music. |

Doesn't this fail the whole idea of using the tracker concept?
I mean, there are plenty of cheap ways to arrange music with midi- and vst-instruments, but the way of tweaking digital samples as you can do with a tracker is, imho, unique..

word i completely agree with you.
i use adobe audition to record straight to mp3...
but if i had to pay for madtracker one more time, i would gladly help out Yannick with my money just so i can say i helped him with his little project that made my life better for the past 7-8 years!!!!! |
