The problem, especially in the beginning of a new forum, would be that numerous people would make postings just to see their number rising. Some might think that a large number of posts corresponds with a huge knowledge, which isn't always the case (/me points towards himself Wink)

The number of posts can be found in the users-area, so if you're really interested, you can always direct people there Smile

I'm favouring introduction of such a counter later on, but again the basic law of democracy (and Yannick's ruling powers Twisted Evil ) decide such a thing.

A post counter will only be of value if I lead the ratings, and since I currently don't have the most number of posts, a post counter is absolutely totally uneccesary Razz

Post count are not relevant and I won't add them.

I've seen people abusing their post counts in forums too many times; don't want this to happen here. Wink

And we are all equal, right? Wink

true, post counters would add to the probability of spam on the forum.
Idea But how about adding a last-seen-online function to the user profile or something? that would show people how active the user is without there being a competition on how many posts people have...

Second that.

Or even a "online time counter" would even nicer, don't you think?

The server doesn't know when you close your browser.
So an online time counter can never be accurate.

Even if it worked, this system wouldn't be fair to people with a modem (who are paying per online second).

I dont think any kind of popularity measure is necessary on this forum..

no post counters

no "most active user" counts..

its a waste of time... why?? just thnk about it.. at the end of the day its just a way of someone saying hey look at me.. i am the best.

which leads me to believe.. the people who suggest such things actually believe they are the one who is going to have the highest count.

how about a measure of "how dedictated a musician some is"?? but how would you measure that??????

what if somebody is really into their music all week and only checks the forum on weekends?? does that mean they are less active than anyone else???

seriously guys... its pretty gay having a count on such things.

hehe just my rant Smile Smile Smile

Post counters are pretty useless, I agree on that. But a last-seen-online feature IMO wouldn't be so bad, especially if it was connected with a number of unique logins and a registered date. I mean, that way if you reply on someones topic, you can get an idea of wether or not you should expect to see a reply from that persons part anytime soon. It's pretty irritating if you reply on a topic and you would like to get an answer back, and then after you've checked the topic for a couple of weeks you realise the guy was only there for that one time. If there was a last-seen-online feature you could check if the guy is just systematically ignoring the topic (which would be indicated by the last-seen-online date being after you've posted your reply), or if he really just visits so seldom.
