Yan: panning slider in mt2 mixer

seems like i said it before but...

why theres no panning slider in mixer? Is it such hard to code? I would be nice to have it. Song mixing would be much easier.

I think its nice suggestion for MT2.

I once discussed it with Yannick, but he said that he wasn't fond of a panning meter that would move the entire audiostream (or something similar).

In my opinion, the mixer could definately use a final panning per track. I don't see many mixers around without it, so there must be a rather fine reason for implementing such a routine Smile

Panning is really needed, the new VST implementation renderes the old trackpaninnig useless. As it is now I need to load a VSTeffect in order to pan some VSTinstruments. A more userfriendly way of panning should be up there on Yannicks todo list if you ask me.

Or, like i suggested earlier, maybe somebody can code a simple panning effect, just plain panning, with low cpu usage. So we could use that in madtracker, ofcourse panning in the mixers would be dope too, but this could solve our problem for now. So, does anybody know anything about coding vst's?

what is hip?

a slider/knob in the mixer for panning is definetly needed imo. It's one of the few big drawbacks of working with MT, no easy way of panning a whole channel.

I agree with that too. If I want to use 2 channels for making one instrument stereo by changing the offset on one of the channels, I have to enter a helluvalot of panning data to pan the first channel entirely left and the second entirely right.

So, it is definately needed!

Greetz,

Big Mo.

P.S. And for coding VST's, I've heard of Synthedit, dunno what it is exactly. You might try that.

EQ is not important in MT2 as there are good plugs to download (free ones!). Quite timewasting for Yan to do such thing then.

But a panning slide would be useful!

Agree, there are very good EQ's out there as VST's, so there's not much point for Yannick to code one. The panning slider however is such a simple thing in the end, it's not very practical and CPU friendly to waste a VST on such a thing. Panning however is essential to good music production. A slider (that can be automated) would definetly make MT more usable for making final mixes.

Using a VST for panning is good because of the automation possibilities it renderes. However, one could argue that panning should be an integrated part ot Madtracker - it seems silly to rely on thirdparty software in order to be able to do something as basic as panning.

Didn`t Mindplay say that he had made a EQ for each channel - a script he had made for Renoise - and would give to Yannick and MT??

gonna bump this one up again, because now that I've had time to play around with VSTs in madtracker I've come to the conclusion that a panning slider in the mixer, that works with VSTs (like the volume fader does), simply is a must have. I've come across several VSTi's, which I find very good and use often, but that don't have a panning knob in them. This basically means I have no way of panning the instruments (I've tried every native madtracker way I can think of), without loading some extra VST which would allow me to pan the track. As I usually end up with at least 20+ channels, all of which I'd like to be able to pan, that's a lot of CPU power going to waste on VSTs which don't do anything else but pan the audiostream.

This really is a feature that should be on the top of your todo list, Yannick Think

Yepp Mr.C, I get ur point...Wink

but it would save some CPU no...?
and most of all other pro. gear, mixers, and (come on man)even home stereos have EQ... so why not MT? Me myself, I like expansion... and i know u do too. Wink Rolling Eyes
