Yes yes,

the idea's seem to be rolling in smoothly. This was Yannick's intention i guess.. to get the best sort of plan for a cd release. Heres a few things:

CD ARTWORK

CD Artwork is an art in itself, There are exact specs to meet, colour seperations to get right, a certain amount of bleed must be included on all images. The printers always over emphasise orange type colours.. so you must keep that in mind when designing the covers. Then there is what you call Preflight.. which determines how it is going to come out on the other end which is only about 75% accurate.. so its a gamble. Better use someone who is experienced and knows what they are doing. to save on processing costs and re-submissions due to errors.

Also CMYK Flattened Photoshop PSD files is the preferred output for the final images. If there are any shapes and text on the Artwork.. seriously dont do them in photoshop, use a vector graphics package like Illustrator or Corel Draw 10 (corel preferred) the quailty of scalable graphics is of a much higher standard than DPI restricted bitmaps. All in all Photoshop is a bit Mickey Mouse for any serious "from scratch" type artwork, but unbeatable when integrating and blending photo images into surreal type backdrops. so simple solution: make your pictures in photoshop and put it all together in Coreldraw or illustrator.

hehe Smile sorry for those that know all this stuff, I'm just clarifying the process for some people that think "hey I will do the covers" because they have done a spiral on photoshop before Smile...... This is where alot of Graphic artists Cross the line, thinking that they have the ability to complete the entire task themselves. Where I work, there are strict rules. and they work for a reason. "The artists make the pictures"... "the layout guys put it together". hehe we get so many great artists that just make a complete mess of CD covers because there layout stinks, they cant see it .. all they see is there art.. but the inconsistencies, symmetry issues and measuremanets stand out like dogs balls.

apart from that, I think with a few more idea's and then some thought about a layout and format of the CD, it is a very cool project Smile That I would be happy to contribute to Musically, Graphically and Production wise.

I have all the specs to make the artwork (I studied graphical industries, so I can fulfill the requirements Cool).
(Btw, maybe Corel is preferred where you live, but not here! (AI/EPS is the must-have here) Very Happy)

I usually make all the bitmap things in Photoshop and complete the artwork (geometrical things and texts) in either Illustrator or Quark XPress.

But the artwork is not the thing we should plan at first. We need content first. Wink

But what I'm going to do right now is to check for the production price of 500 & 1000 units in either single or double CD. That will allow me to calculate a final price. 500 units may be a more reasonable amount, but it'll be more expensive.
If someone knows some CD-manufacturing company that has excellent prices, tell me. Smile

Yannick

Adobe Illustrator is prefered over here too Wink , I just personally think that Corel is a much better product, thus I prefer to use it. Plus it exports EPS and AI anyway Smile

Agreed, Content is the main issue before any arty farty stuff. Wink I think we could fill it up easy Smile

hrmm as for cd pressing .. hrmm for 500 cd's if you pay more than $2.30 AU (roughly US $1.50) per unit with full colour screen printed CD and 8 page booklet and double sided inlay, then you are being ripped off.

there should (MUST) be some pressing plants that are prepared to offer at this price or better in your area.

be prepared though to get slogged about $100 US for the pressing plants preferred PREFLIGHT consultants Smile

Sad So, no fancy artwork? Aww...

Smile Nah, I see your point. The covers have to be made on a large scale, but in Illustrator??!
...
...
Cheesy lensflare, go! Smile
Idea YAR! Idea

Hee hee... Ok ok ok...
*Reads through previous post again*
Screen printed? Hmm...
Ooh, a booklet? Cool...
Cheaper than our low priced currency? Is there even such thing?!?!

All in all, CD CD CD CD CD CD CD!
And I wanna buy one! Very Happy

Er, when it's, um, ready, of course...

EDIT
A MadTracker wallpaper is still ok, right? Smile

I think 500 copies will be a pretty realistic first batch at least (the cover should of course proudly say that this cd is limited to 500 copies only, worldwide, and that it therefore is a special edition Very Happy).
One can always press more if they run out Wink

maby it'll be cool to include a little 'making of' of certain parts of the tracks on the cd, this will give the listener a better idea how a specific part/sound/emotion is created.

Wicked idea btw, a 'best of madtracker' cd...

hehe you just said the evil word.

Did you know the story behind the name change of Kentucky Fried Chicken to KFC...

Well the product they sell, under authority cannot be classed as "chicken" because its genetically and hormonally produced
and in some cases not even chicken at all. The have been caught using Rabbit, Dog, Cat, Fox etc etc.. have you ever wonder why some of those bones look like "how the **** did that come out of a chicken".. you just ate something else dude. Smile

and ofcourse, I am sure you are aware that "colonel Sanders" was a leading member of the KKK up until the day he died:)

hehe

Hehehe! Very Happy

The first time I've read this post, Yannick proposes and Idea and then everybody completes the designs, decides whats gonna be on the cd, delegates the work to themselves - yet no compo yet!

I can clearly see why Yannick never mentions MT3.....

;p
