thats a good idea TNK. apart from compo winners, a separate competition could be organised for photoshopping some album covers.

as for distribution, have you thought about it yannick?

Heh heh... I like that idea...

Well! I'm all for an CD cover/booklet image contest! Very Happy

How do you want to distribute this CD ?
A deal with an independent label could be interesting.

Hints are welcome... Smile

It has been discussed before IIRC. As the realization of a booklet/cover requires a few technical requirements, I'd rather not do such a compo.
I've made a few CD covers already, so I can make it. But ideas are welcome though.

Why not just post the requirements also, like with the music compo? Shouldn't be too hard to follow guides if you say the image has to be X*Y and XXX dpi, leaving XX mm borders for cutting etc. I'm sure whichever printshop you intend to use would let you post their guides on the net, and I'm sure they all have guides for this purpose. If people that enter the compo don't know how to follow the guides and don't know how to ask, then well, they shouldn't enter Wink

EDIT: but of course I understand this would probably delay the release even longer, and you'd have to find a couple of judges for that compo also if you don't want to play dictator (count me out though Wink )

Or anime, or manga. I don't think dojinshi would work too well... The first listing with "dojinshi" on Google was hentai. And while sex usually sells... well. Rolling Eyes

But yeah, anime + trackers = w00t. Cool

dojinshi is just fanart, which usually ends up being hentai. Of course I knew this when I wrote the previous message Wink

I would maybe buy the cd in its original format, but only because of my affiliation with this scene. If I want the music, I could also just download it, delete the crappy tunes, and burn my own cd.

you could do that, if the mt2 files didn't have a stupid lock on them against conversion.

That lock is to protect the authors property. In the latest versions, they can choose to activate that lock or not.
Also, you can contact the authors directly for an mp3 version of their track (if no mp3 URL is mentioned in the song comments).

Format:
Imho nobody would buy an audio-only CD. It's just not cool to buy 10 tracks if your MP3 CD's host 10 albums, not to speak about DVD. It has to be a mixed mode CD (better a double-CD) with gimmicks and all kind of additional content, a bit like what I did with the "tracked worx 2k". The more background about the authors the better. People need to "get in touch" with the "famous" musicians. About samples, I could contribute a bread-and-butter set of instruments (not just the old stuff) of course.

Content:
Imho the best thing to promote MT and the compo would be a mixture of maybe the top 5 tunes of the 2004 compo plus the most impressive tunes of the past, selected by a jury.
About the "as many styles as possible" idea, that's perfect, as long as quality is more important than to have all styles on board. In this case I think it's better to highlight the strengths than to tell people Madtracker is the #1 choice to do Hans Zimmer like orchestral music. The goal should be to attract potential users, not the "even *that* is possible!" attitude.

After all, the best solution would be to not speak about a separate CD but to simply include everything at the MT3 CD Smile
