Personally, I like the nice blend and mixture of vst and oldskool tracking in Madtracker
I nowadays makes new songs exactly the same way I did back 1988! I sample some drums, bass, leads etc from my synths and put it all together in Madtracker. Real oldsKool way.
BUT.. With MadTracker I can also use VSTs to improve the sounds, but adding EQ, reverb, delay etc... In a much simpler and better way than going through all menus on my HW-gear and resample all the time to you are happy.
This is truely the big strenght of MadTracker as far as I sees it. Also, that you can manipulate filter settings far better within the Madtracker than by using external sequencers. On VST instruments, that just adds it up to the next level of soundquality, saving sampling+sequencing time... etc..etc..
