Converting your MadTracker modules to MP3 or Audio-CD

In this tutorial will be explained step-by-step how you can convert your music made in MadTracker into an Audio-CD or a high-quality MP3-file. The only thing you need is a pro registration of MadTracker. All other software mentioned here is completely free, thoroughly tested, and of high quality.

This tutorial is written for those composers who wish to distribute their music to record companies and friends via a CD or MP3, or who wish to listen to their music on their MP3-player or car CD-player.

Step 1 Converting to wave

1) Open the module you wish to export to wave in MadTracker.

2) Press [Ctrl]+[E] (or go to File -> Export -> Wave...) to enter the Wave Export screen.

3) Select the CD-quality preset. This will make your exported file a 16-bit stereo .WAV with a frequency of 44100 Hz, which exactly meets the specifications of a normal Audio-CD or MP3. Put the Filters on the highest setting (129-point), keep the gain as it is, and choose the highest type of interpolation (Sinc interpolation) for the best audio quality. Make sure that Positions is set to All, and that all tracks are ticked. This way, the entire song and all its tracks will be exported to one wave file. Then, choose a location on your hard disk where the wave file should be written to, and finally click on Export. MadTracker will now export the entire song to your hard disk. The time this takes is dependent of the song's length and the speed of your processor.

4) If you want to make an Audio-CD with multiple tracks, or if you wish to convert multiple modules to MP3 files, you can repeat step 3 for as many tracks as needed. You will then end up with all the tracks that you want to convert to Audio-CD tracks or MP3 files on your hard disk in the .WAV format.

Step 2 Converting .Wav to Mp3

1) First of all you should download [WinLame] ( any other program will do, but WinLame is free)

2) Open WinLame and choose the files you want to encode (which are the MadTracker .Wav files) and click Next

3) In the second screen you can define the output file type and location, and you can choose to automatically remove the original wave files and to automatically create a playlist for the MP3-files. You can choose to encode to MP3, Ogg Vorbis and normal wave. Click Next once you have defined the settings that you want to use.

4) In the Presets window you can choose between a variety of output qualities of the final MP3. The alt-preset: standard results in an MP3-file with a variable bitrate of approximately 192 kbps. This is a good balance between file size and audio quality. Each preset comes with a description that explains it's characteristics and the usage.

Keep in mind that a higher preset will only increase the size of your MP3 file, so think twice if you really need an overkilling preset like "insane".

Step 3 Converting .Wav to Audio-CD

1) First of all download [CD burner XPpro]

2) Put an empty CD-R into your CD-burner, start CDBurnerXP Pro, and select the option Create a new Audio-CD, with or without gaps between the tracks.

3) Use the browser in the top-left box to locate the wave files that you want to burn on CD for audio playback. Select the files you want to burn, and drag them to the lower area. You can also click on Add after having selected the files you want to burn.

At the bottom of the screen you will find the current information of your Audio-CD. Here you can find information regarding the amount of tracks added, the total running time of the CD and the amount of CD-room taken and available. Make sure not to cross the red line at the bottom-right, otherwise your CD will probably not be readable by a lot of CD-players.

-You can move the order of the audio tracks by clicking on one, and moving it up or down the row while keeping your mousebutton pressed.

-Make sure that the right CD-burner is selected in the top-middle of the screen!

4) Click on the Burn-icon in the middle-left. The normal window of CDBurnerXP Pro will disappear, and your CD will be burnt. Do note that the default burning process automatically burns your CD at the highest speed that either your CD or CD-burner allows. Furthermore, by default CDBurnerXP Pro puts two seconds of silence between all tracks. If you want to change this (for instance if you want to burn at a lower speed, or if you want your CD to playback your individual songs gapless), click on the down-arrow on the right of the Burn-icon, and click on Burn and let me choose settings. The burning properties for your CD will appear. Here you can define the writing speed and the burning method. If you select Track At Once, then two seconds of silence will be introduced between all tracks. Selecting Disc At Once or Session At Once will remove these seconds of silence, and put the individual tracks behind each other without gaps.

Once the burning is done, the burned CD will automatically be ejected. One fresh Audio-CD with your MadTracker music awaits you! Press Done to return to the main interface of CDBurnerXP Pro to burn another CD, or to close the program.
