Track Effects

MadTracker has eight build in track effects, they are very good in that they don't use much CPU power, and so a great alternative to VST effects. Below you will find a detailed description of every plugin and some tips on how to apply them creatively. In most effect descriptions you will find the terms Dry and Wet. Dry is the signal before it goes into the effect and Wet is the signal that has the effect applied to it.

All the functions are described below but what you really should do is take a sample and apply the effects one by one on the track and go mental with the parameters and hear what they do!

The following track effects are available:

00 No effect

01 Delay

02 Stereo Delay

03 Filter

04 Flange

05 Analog Filter

06 Distortion

102 mpReverb

103 mpReverb 2

00 No effect

No effect will be applied on the track.

01 Delay

A simple delay, it takes the output from the track it's on and creates a delay effect without changing the stereo field. So if you pan the dry sound all the way to the right then the wet delayed sound will be all the way to the right aswell. Although this may seem a bit crude and unusefull you can do great stuff with a pair of these delay's. For example, if you take 2 or 3 tracks on wich a melody line is played by the same instrument. You can pan all these sounds using command FX's in a way that every track has it's own panning, then apply delay's on all the tracks and you have a controllable stereo delay!

Parameters:

1 Delay (0 to 128 ticks / 0 to 32 lines)

The delay slider let's you control the delay time, you can choose between tick's and lines. Lines is the most simple way to work with this setting, a setting of 4 lines will simply delay the sound by 4 lines, in the tempo of the track, so that's wicked! If you work with tick's you can get much more control on the delay, you can also set it to extreme low values to create 'comb-filter' like effects, this is when the delay is so short and the feedback is high enough that a tone seems to appear.

2 Depth (0 to 127)

This is the volume of the wet signal, the volume of the delay. Be adviced, this is no Dry/Wet crossfader, if you turn the depth all the way up you will have a loud delay and the original signal together.

3 Feedback (0 to 127)

Feedback in analog equipment is created by sending the wet signal back into the effect. Simpy put, the higher the feedback setting, the more delay's you will hear.

02 Stereo Delay

Similar to the delay effect, but this effect creates a stereo effect by using an LFO ( low frequency oscillators ) that controls the panning of the delay.

Parameters

1 Delay value (0 to 128 ticks/ 0 to 32 lines)

Controls the delay time

2 Depth (0 to 127)

This controls the volume of the delay

3 Feedback (0 to 127)

This controls the feedback and thus how long the delay is audible.

4 LFO waveform

This controls the waveform the LFO is modulating in ( only a sine wave is possible )

5 LFO period (16 to 1024 ticks)

The period or lenght that the LFO needs until it's back at the beginning

6 LFO amplitude (0 to 127)

The higher this value is, the higher the stereo effect will be

03 Filter

1 Filter type

  • 0 = low-pass
  • 1 = high-pass
  • 2 = band-pass
  • 3 = notch
  • 4 = bi-notch
  • 5 = peak
  • 6 = bi-peak
  • 7 = phaser

2 Cutoff frequency (0 to 22050 Hz)

3 Resonance (0 to 128)

4 Width (for bi-notch and bi-peak) (0 to 22050 Hz)

04 Flanger

4 LFO waveform

  • 0 = sine

5 LFO period (16 to 1024 ticks)

6 LFO amplitude (0 to 127)

05 Analog Filter

2 Cutoff frequency (0 to 11000 Hz)

3 Resonance (0 to 128)

4 LFO waveform

  • 0 = sine

5 LFO period (2 to 1024 ticks)

6 LFO amplitude (0 to 127)

06 Distortion

1 Level (-60 to 24 dB)

2 Thresold (-60 to 0 dB)

3 Curvature (0 to 128)
