As the genre said, 'Funky Breaks', I didn't quite know what to expect. But this song is pure demo music, in the most complimentary sense of the word. The closest thing I could compare this to on Madtracker.org would be the excellent - though somewhat superior - 'Another Worlds' by Eternal Engine. It did actually have some of that vibe to it.
It starts off with a heavily delayed, very resonant bass sample with a swept filter cut-off. The delays seem to end up hitting in the right places, making a nice rhythm. A somewhat more subdued bassline is introduced, then a well programmed breakbeat accompanies it. Soon after this, some well sampled and nicely looped choir chords, together with some stereo synth strings, make their auspicious debuts. These are fed through some stereo delays which creates a nice lush sound. A couple of patterns later, a short synth plays the main melody, which though not breathtakingly original, does create the right vibe.
A few patterns afterwards, the original bassline comes back, then the chorus/main melody makes its triumphant return again. Then it winds down to a close; the track clocks in at 3:42.
I liked this, in fact it's one of my favorites that's come along in quite a while. As for possible improvements that could be made to this, I can't think of too many. I probably would have liked a few vocal clips, or special effects here and there - wind/engine noises rising up in pitch/volume, blips, various types of explosions, that sort of thing. And if you are using a short lead, then sometimes contrasting it with a sustained one can be nice.
Nice effort, and keep it up!
