 |
I'm evaluating MadTracker, and I like a lot about what it has to offer, but I have a couple of questions. Searched the Wiki, tutorials and these forums, and I'm having trouble with a few things.
Remap Keyboard - Is there a way I can change my (PC) keyboard setup? Specifically, I want to change which key is to be used for Note Off (currently Caps Lock, which gets really annoying).
VSTi Panning - Is it possible to control the panning of a VST instrument in the pattern? I was trying to enter values into the panning column, but it doesn't seem to have an effect. The only way I can see panning my VSTs is the move the slider in the VST itself.
Side note: occasionally, I get a VST that doesn't show the panning slider -- either it doesn't show at all, or the window is too small. Is this possibly a bug? And if I can't get to the slider, how do I control panning of that particular VSTi? |

Short answer, no.

I actually don't know either how you would control panning of a VST directly in madtracker other than the panning slider. However, you could just add another VST that can be panned after the one who's sound you want to pan.

The VoxengoStereoTouch for instance seems to be a CPU-friendly VST that you could use for panning. And you can automate all parameters, so no need to use the panning column. |

Damn...
In the key reference guide (in the tutorial), it says '<' is also usable. But it doesn't seem to work or do anything. Any ideas?
Thanks for your help understanding the panning as well. I'm going to look into that VoxengoStereoTouch. |

then it might be a region-dependent key, in hungarian keyboard layout we have the letter í on it - i thought foreign keyboards have their own fancy letters on it but now i'm getting curious, are we talking about the key right to left shift? |

Yes. And it's a pretty good place for note-stop imo.
Oh, the mysteries of region-based things, making everything just a tiny bit more difficult. |

I'm using a US keyboard. Which is why I was confused when I was looking at the tutorial. There seems to be an extra key in the bottom row on that diagram. Since I don't have an 'í' key, I'm guessing it somehow translates into the Caps-Lock key. Which, as I'm sure you understand, is very annoying.
Maybe I'll put this in as a feature request to have different mapping on US keyboards. In Impulse Tracker, I think the '1' was the note-off button. |

if you have a key right to your left-shift other than z than it's the key you are looking for. if your left-shift is neighbouring z then this key might be az europe-thingie |

Guessing it's a european thing. I've tried every key on the board, and Caps Lock is the only one that does it (it's next to the 'A' in the home row on the US keyboard). |

Just printed that out and circled it in red. I also drew an arrow to it and a note reading "You don't have this key!!" |

The keyboard layout (independant of localization) is in the tutorial.

I love that tutorial (and the VST one as well)...it's well written and has been a huge assett to my acclaimation into the MadTracker interface.
The only confusion was with that keyboard shown in the keyboard layout. That "Off" key doesn't exist on US keyboards. US keyboards only have 12 keys on that row (and our shift keys are very long). Here's what it looks like:

maybe the key left to letter 1 can be used as note-off too - at least that was the earlier place for our í letter
EDIT: as i come to think of it no, that should be the step increment key. |
