I have several piano VST instruments that I would love to reduce the bass on. Can anyone recommend a good _free_ VSTi plugin that reduces bass on a sample without detracting from the quality of the sound? I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me! Thanks! |

Ok what you need is an eq, simple as that?
There is one implanted i mt2 which is good to start off with if you never used an eq before.
Dunno if there is a tutorial around for the mt eq yet, anyone?
But google sure has tons of stuff about how you use an eq so it shouldn't be too hard to find some facts.
Shortcut to eq in mt2:
You'll find the eq button in the left bottom of the screen in mt2 press it and you will see a windows apearing over each track. To lower the bass on a track of your choosing simply drag the point to the most left (in the new apearing window) down and you will see that the low freq/bass will loose gain. If you still don't understand due to my stupid explanation just ask again. |

Ok. It depends what you mean by "hi-quality". Yes, there are plenty of technically good samples out there, but they are also scattered over the web and quite tedious to find (if you need some very spesific samples). If someone want this kind of samples - i guess its easier to buy a good sample cd. Anyway, by making them yourself, you get exactly what you want or need. At least sometimes. 
I rather try to avoid using those free samples, because they usually quite boring and tired. Second, you can´t know origin of most of those samples for sure - if you are seriously going to publish your music someday, this may be problem in some cases.
Yes, there are some usefull samples, its not wise to do everything by yourself - but sometimes it is. |

Just download a lot of mt2´s from the music section and use the samples inside of them (don´t forget to give credits).
Also arrange yourself a good wav-editor (like adobe audition, soundforge, or freeware) so you can edit/manipulate/combine/record samples yourself. You could also sample some vst-instruments that won´t change throughout a song.
And ofcourse scan through you´re cd/mp3-collection for nice parts to sample. |

Well, its not illegal to scan through you´re cd/mp3-collection for nice parts to sample. Just make sure you have permission of the copyright’s owner, before you are actually going to sample the part.
I always considered it as one of the fun parts of making tracked music. Listening carefully to music for clean instruments, sample them and adding them to the sample-collection. |
