Left and Right Sound Shifting

I thought that the way to make a sound go from the left ear to the right ear was done through panning. But when I try to "pan" the sound under the instrument window, the right speaker fails to produce any sort of sound. How can I make a sound shift from the left speaker to the right? Is there a reason the right speaker doesn't produce sound when done through the instrument window? Is there a vst that could accomplish this? Thanks for the help.

Dont know why your right speaker dos`nt produce sound - but if you want to shift the sound from right to left there are several ways of doing it:

If you are using samples - click on the sample in the sample window and select the tab: "ENVELOPES" to the right. press the "pan" button and draw and envelope from top downwards to the bottom (or vice versa) Remember to enable the envelope by checking the little checkbox to the left.

If you are using a VST you can use AUTOMATION to shift the sound. refer with the helpfile on how to automate vst parameters.

You can also use the coloumn to the right of the volume: Ex:

c-4 .. XX ...

Replace the xx with hexdecimals between 00 (left) 80 (Middle) and FF (right) Hex numbers are also explained in the helpfile

c-4 ..00 ... (Left)
... ..30 ...
... ..60 ...
... ..80 ... (Middle)
... ..A0 ...
... ..D0 ...
... ..FF ... (Right)

This is just a crude example, but hopefully it will be helpfull

Thats what I thought I had to do, but whenever the dot is at the top, no sound is produced. But if the dot, or line, shifts towards the bottom, then all of the sound empties into the left speaker (which I would expect it to do). But for some reason, the sound never goes into the right speaker. Nothing is wrong with either speaker, so maybe I have to set something up somewhere? I looked under the configuration tab for audio and while I have 16 bit and stereo checked, I notice that I have not selected a device. Could this be the problem?

Yes, try to set a device, that should do it..

If this does not work, make sure the problem isn't global to your computer; ie try to play a song (like an MP3 file) with wide stereo picture in an external player, to make sure that you really have true stereo in your system...

Thanks D, will try it. If it is a problem with the computer and the sound never wants to empty into the right speaker, will this affect the sound whenever I get it onto a system with wide stereo? Or will it empty into the right speaker as designed? Thanks again guys for your help.
