Performance problems with MAudio FastTrack USB

I've been using Madtracker for a couple of weeks, and it's been working really well.

Today I decided to plug in my old Fasttrack USB to record my guitar. It worked just fine--I can hear my guitar through my speakers and record it in Audacity. Other audio-playing software (Milkytracker, Winamp, etc) also works perfectly.

The peoblem started when I opened up Madtracker, and it just lagged terribly. It takes several seconds just to open the file menu or the config window, where they used to come up instantly. Whenever I try to play any sound through MT2 it takes a few seconds to start, and the entire program freezes while it plays. I've updated my drivers and tried different settings, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

I should note I'm using a fairly old computer, with 1gb ram, windows xp sp2, and a 2.8 ghz p4. Has anyone else had similar problems?
