hi. im getting into the whole sampling aspect of things lately, and im curious about how to get the best resolution for spectral view in a wave editor. I would like to cleanly rip out kicks/snares/ instruments accurately.

Can you eloborate on this a bit more? I'd like to help, but have absolutely no idea where you're coming from.
I believe you're wanting to copy out individual kicks/snares etc. from ready-made music? Just zoom in as far as the editor will allow, and try to look for a suitable -inf dB point at which to start, and a similar point at which to end the 'sampling process' - should do the trick, no?
I'm sure there would be software (such as a sampler) for doing this for you as well.
I'd say the same, just zoom in on the area of interest. Adobe Audition 1.5 has a nice feature where you can marquee a area in spectral view. You could for instance select the bassregion only and crop away everything else. Is this what you're talking about?
