Posted: Sun Jul 23 2006 14:01 Problems transfering Amiga mods to PC |
 |
Hi guys, I hope someone can help me.
I am trying to transfer files from my A1200 to my PC via a null modem cable.
I can transfer the files no problem and then add the .MOD extension, but when I try and open them with MT they are all scrambled. IS this a common problem??
I have transferred a couple of mods from the Amiga that were ripped from demo's and they work fine so I know the transfer is working. It's my own personal mods that don't work.
I have also transferred a couple of samples with no problem.
I am using Amiga Explorer for the transfer.
Help! |

Sorry. I thought the HD had died on the Amiga as I've not used it for years but I turned it off for a while and now it's alive again so I removed that post!
Thanks for the help :p |

I think you've packed the mods with something, like PowerPacker or XPK .. In that case you need to unpack them before you can open them with MT2 ..
When you load them into Protracker on the Amiga or into Hippoplayer or something, what does is it written when it loads?
You can also test them in WinUAE.. Or you can try to open them with Deliplayer for Windows, since it should be able to unpack most of the known Amiga crunchers..
If they are played correctly, then there's nothing wrong with the files.. then you just need to unpack them.

Thanks for the replies.
I just managed to get the Amiga working for a few minutes long enough to discover that I've written the mods using Soundtracker Pro2.
I tried to open them using Protracker on the Amiga and it doesn't recognise them as they don't have mod. at the start of the file name.
Right now the Amiga is not working again so I will try again later to see if the ancient thing feels like working! |

Aha! Okay, Soundtracker Pro II does not save the modules in ordinary Protracker format. It has extended sample size lenght and so on. Download it from here, install it in WinUAE.
If you can load the modules in that program, then try to convert them to standard Protracker Mods if possible. If you can do that you can in that case import them in MT2 after that.
I'm going to check if DigiBooster Pro might be able to load these modules too. In that case you can convert them to XM and then load them in MT2.

Well, seems like a dead end. I guess that the only one who can convert your tunes is the author of the program. Maybe you can contact him..

Thanks for he help.
Do you know if it would be possible to run ST PRo2 on WinUAE and copy and paste the tracks into MT? Then save the samples and load them into MT in the correct slots?? |

Probably not an easy task. You can ofcourse start it in WinUAE .. I tried it a couple of hours ago (or when I wrote the message before this one). You can ofcourse just save all the samples to iff-files and then import them in MT2, then you can by hand put note for note in MT2 .. There's no possible way, as I could see at least, saving them as mod and then import them in mt2.
It's not possible to copy and paste.

Ok.. Sorry to be such a dumb arse about all of this but I have WinUAE installed and I have downloaded and unpacked ST PRo2 but I can't work out how to get it to run as it's not an ADF file like I am used to.
I bet you are getting pissed off with me!! lol |

It might work without installing workbench, but you need a harddrive partition. You can add harddrives without a hardfile (by pointing it to a directory) in the configuration. I'm not home at the moment, so I don't have WinUAE in front of me.
Anyway, when you've got a active harddrive, unpack the lha-archive (with for example WinRAR) in the directory where you've pointed the harddrive to. Boot up the virtual Amiga and hold left and right mouse buttons to get to the Early Startup Menu..
Press "Boot with no startup" and then execute the program.
It might be needed to install Workbench to get it work though. In that case you need to find or convert your Wb-disks to ADF and then install them as you normally would do on an Amiga.

Ok... I have been pretty busy since I last posted in hee but I have now finally got STPII to run using WinUAE...
My next question is how do I load the mods from my PC drive into STPII running in WinUAE??
Is there an easy way of converting my mods to ADF??
I am very confused... I tried making WinUAE read the PC directory as a hard drive but nothing showed up.
Any help will be greatly recieved |
