Safe mode for Madtracker?

Hey I was wondering if there is a way of closing down all programs except the necessary ones in madtracker to allow madtracker to run.

My system chokes when I use a lot of VSTS and effects so I was wondering if this is feasible?

I believe there is a thread here somewhere in this forum on how to maximise cpu use with madtracker.
