\o/ i've bough myself a acces virus hardware synth ... (i get it saturday)
but ....
I don't know anything about connecting it and arrange on it with madtracker/pc
The midi to pc connection is no problem i guess, just midi out to pc midi in (with a midi converter cable ofc)
Neither would be the synth audio out to mixer to soundcard in
A few other things i was wondering, the setup above lets me play with the synth and i hear noise i guess i could even record it on my pc, but how do i arrange and a even better question would be how do i records when i also use vsti/samples combined with the hardware synth, i guess the mt export function would not export the hardware sounds to a .wav (would be cool if it could but í'm sure it doesn't), what is the best way to records without making samples out of the virus instruments and use them in madtracker , that just isn't what i want... anyone ?
Another thing would be the midi controls over all the cool effects i have on the Virus , i guess in madtracker that is a big no-no since midi commands are not supported, i guess i have to rewire in f.e. cubase to get that to work.
Well these are just a few things i was wondering , maybe more things to consider when hooking up hardware synths, and use in combination with samples vsti/madtracker, and i think i am right about the hooking up , a schematic from someone who is using madtracker icw hw synths would be awesome .. .
Ah another thing i use a midi keyboard threw usb, is it possible te get the usb connection as is , and hook up the Virus to the pc's midi port (game port with cable) and control the hw synth threw software (routing) or do i have to buy myself a midi box to hook up both the keyboard and Virus via midi to the game/midi port ?
Anything is welcome .. |

I think you would have to go rewired. To use the virus with mt without making samples of your synth is from what I know impossible without using rewire, correct me if I'm wrong. IF you decide to sample your virus after all I think this program could be handy for you.

btw, which model of the virus did you get? just curious. |

whaat it is not possible to send midi out to the virus from madtracker , ? well i have to record the track i play along with samples/vsti anyways coz it is not possible to get hardware synths in the render, that is logical imo
But i though i could at least play sound with midi out to the hardware synth , correct me if i understood wrong..
Thanx for the feedback and programm link it's on the wish list anyways
The model is this one (classic virus):

Okay got the virus and solved all the issues above , so i though i post them here for anyone who is interested
picture of the stuff now:
Next investments , heads and mixer..
Anyways :
I connected the virus on the pc with a usb to midi cable for midi data (obviously), the master keyboard is connected to the pc directly with usb (has a build in midi converter)
The output of the virus is now attached directly via low balanced jack to the monitors, this will be a virus-> mixer connecten and from the mixer to the audio card input (for recording). The master keyboard can send data to the virus in Cubase (Madtracker can't handle midi out so no hardware synth can be handeled directly from it , maybe anyone knows if there is a vsti that can ? (i can record the automation in cubase for midi commands if i want to).
Software setup do far :
Cubase SX 3.1.1 with madtracker in rewire mode. |

Glad it all worked out. I don't have much experience with hardware synths myself. But I remember I always wanted a virus synth a few years ago. Even made me look up some virus samples and play around. Small sample

Anyways, your setup looks really nice now. I'd love to get two flatscreens aswell cause those things I have now takes up half the room. Should also add that I'm really happy with my soundcraft compact mixer. For the money it's totally worth it, so have that in mind when you start to look for one. |

DUH!
Why didn't tell anyone that it is posible to send midi to the virus , just select the midi output in the instruments synthesizer tab ...
Works now (without automation though) but it does the trick for easy arranging ...
Edit:
Does anyone have a clue how to setup the Rekon Audio VST editor in Madtracker , got it to work in cubase with the documentation on the website : http://www.rekonaudio.com/support.php
Can't seem to route the vsti to the midi/instrument port . HELP! |

First of all, n1ce synth!
2nd: You don't have a classic, you have a virus A. The classic is the old Virus B in a new jacket.
3th, you can send midi CC's to your Virus witch CCxxxx (check the helpfile of mt2)
4th: buy a mixer or even better buy an audiointerface like motu ultralite or 24io or rme hdsp9652 with behringer ADA8000. With such an setup you can record all stuff (only via cubase/logic/abletonlive) in realtime to seperate channels.
What did you pay for your Virus A (something like 300€ I hope?)
If you have any questions I can help you just pb your msn |

1st: THANX
2nd: Yeah it is the Virus A , in the previous post i thought it was the same machine but it is a Virus A indeed
3th:I've decided to go on to cubase for the arrangements from now , but thanx for the midi CC suggestion i have a look at it anyways
4th:For the mixer: Good suggestion i have a look at the different possibilities ... great pointer though .
Less it is my first to play with more will come i guess ... vsti's are nice but HW synths are even nicer
If i have more questions about the hw synths and stuff i'll PM you, thanx for the feedback/suggestions! |
