So, i've been using Madtracker in its basic way for ... well forever, i.e. just using samples and the inbuilt fx... think it might be time to look into some VSTs maybe, is it easy to get started with VSTs in Madtracker?

Excellent Smile guess i should really just check out the tutorial on here... at the moment, i just don't see how the VSTs would link up with putting note data in the usual columns in the different tracks in madtracker...

VSTis, same as samples?

I was totally new to the VSTi thing too. Took me a little bit to "get it". MT2 treats them sorta like samples, sorta different. The differences caused me some problems till I figured them out, e.g. the channel (track) the VST is playing in is not necessarily the one the notes are in! But now that I "got it", the hard part is just learning the characteristics of the VSTi and how to use them (some are really complicated). Plus, effects pretty much don't work with VSTis, so they aren't as flexible in some ways as samples are. But I think the trade-off is worth it because you'll have access to much better sounding instruments, and end up with better, less "flat" mixes. MT2 really opens up with VSTis.

Forwarning, some VSTis don't work perfectly in MT2, so don't give up if it doesn't work, there are tons of VSTis out there!
