You can send notes into a Vst-Effect by creating a new instrument (not VST!), doubleclicking it,go to the Synthesizer-tab and select the Vst-FX from the right-side of this window wich should be controlled. also set the "enabled" checkbox.
as far as i know it is not possible to send notes "through" Vst-Effects. this doesn't work

but you would most likely need to use SEND effects in some kind of way, as they add sound to an existing signal. You just dont want the existing signal, right?

1. post your query in a developer forum (like Synthedit) They might be able to build a tool to route the SEND signal to a separate channel.
2. Try panning base signal to the left channel and effect signal to the right. This should give you an oppotunity to remove the base signal. I got this to work with MTs reverb. But you still have to kill one channel and wont get stereo.
3. Record one sequence without effects and one with and try to remove the basesignal in post edit like you would remove noise. (I have never tried this myself and cant explain any further, sorry)
1. Pan you instrument left
2. Add Reverb2 (only one I`ve tested) - set Pan reverb to the right.
3. Route sound from your track to another track (like from track 1 to track 2)
4. Add a VST effect to Track 2. Pan it right.
