How to stop MIDI messages from starting the player

Every time I press notes on one or two octaves (I forget which I'm at work right now) down from middle C, it starts playback... is there a setting I can change so that this won't happen?

yes, it is in the setup settings where you can change.
seek through the menus.

Hi. Its here: configuration -> Midi -> Function Keys. There you can see which key triggers the playback. Usually its "C2" And of course it helps to read the manual Regards BMX
