Simply put trance. But unlike most trance tunes these days it doesn't rely on those, yes you guessed it, typical trance strings. Instead it features a nice sawtooth in the lead. This track in fact reminds me quite a bit of trance from the mid 90's.
The lead melody, however nice, has a pretty typical sound over it. I get a strong sence of having heard this before.

Overall mix is good. Nothing that kills your speakers, nothing that makes you think you've lost your hearing. All the submelodies and background stuff works well with the lead. I like the part in the intro, just before the kick starts, where everything tunes down, and then the kick punches in. The break is perhaps a bit too long, I would shorten it down.

Sample quality is good. I like the punch in the kick. And as I said, the lead is cool. The bassmelody is good, but perhaps a bit weak in the low bass. I feel that the track overall misses a bit of that low rumbling bass which would give it more energy.

Overall, a good trance piece. Actually one of few I've enjoyed listening to lately. It does however sound a bit too familiar and usual.

Good to hear a trance track that isn't totally "by the book". Amazing sound quality and very good mixing, I really can't criticize anything technically on this track. Nice, long suspenseful buildups. The choice of sounds is not very original. I would expect to see this song ranking in the top 5.

"Your Soul" by Feeble Brain is a well-executed, cleanly-produced, stereotypical by-the-numbers trance tune. I can almost see the artist going through the trance checklist as he wrote this song. Long, drawn-out fade-in intro... check. Minimalistic, almost non-existent melody... check. 2-step drum rhythm... check. 1-note bass riffs... check. Repeated spoken vocal-clip... check. Long stretches with no percussion to add "depth"... check. 7-minute playing time... check.

Yep, it's a trance tune.

To his credit, FB brings impeccable production values to the table. The sample quality is superb, and he squeezes a very clean sound out of them with nearly professional results. That helps a LOT. And as simplistic as the melodies are and as long as the playing time is, the song never quite falls into the trap of sounding repetitive.

But in the end, "Your Soul" is still by-the-numbers trance, and FB really doesn't add anything new to the genre. It doesn't sound bad, but there's nothing compelling about it that makes me want to hear it again either. As such, it comes out as only slightly above average, earning it a 6.
