Genre: club trance

Pretty impressive sound quality. Very nice and clear overall sound. The main theme works well, but the major drawback are the beats and the overload of variations. These two keep interfering with the build-up of a dancing vibe. This song would have worked better in a listener-friendly genre, such as ambient of IDM. Either that, or the dance element should be emphasized more strongly. This could be achieved by creating stronger beats (so a straight forward and dominant bassdrum, open hihat and clap), less breaks in the beats, and more repetitive elements to keep the song going.

The transposition after the third minute is very nice. Shoot me, but I like the occassional transposition (even though it's simple and done way too often).

Overall: not very original (both samples and melodies), lacks the necessary dancing vibe, but well crafted, excellent sound quality & excellent programming.

First things first...

I can't play this file from madtracker so I couldn't judge you one madtracker specific functions. But I can say that 30+ plugins is way to much.

Yannick provided us with ogg versions so I'm listening to that atm, and I had expected a bit more with the amount of vst plugins, I don't realy hear as much of the effects you have used with the plugins so this gives me the feeling that you haven't realy considerd what to do with each plugin.
But I could be wrong...

The track features vocal samples for kai tracids - planet of liquid sky's if i'm not mistaken ( great track ) but the track is no remix. The melody's are quite alright, yet a bit repetive, and flow nicely into each other.
The drums are nicely programmed but mixed in an non groovy way, maybe you could have used more hi hats or percussive sounds to give the track more groove.

The overal mix of the track is a bit hollow, it lacks some high freq's, try to give the synths some more attack by applying a noise oscilator with a short decay envelope to give them some more punch that can realy make the mix more attractive.

Overall this is a nice track!
Keep it up!

wow! Not before have I so immediately started to think of another artist, namely Kai Tracid. The intro vocal is exactly like something Kai would use in his tracks. Or more precicely, it's something you'd hear in commercial trance in the late 90's. Needless to say, this track follows in those footsteps to some extent and also adds some great cheese to the mix with it's vocal stabs.

Technically, the biggest flaw in this track is the volume of the snare. It's too loud and thus overrides everything else. It's more like it's the snare against the world, the world in this case being the rest of the instruments. Otherwise I like the drumprogramming. It's surprisingly variating considering the genre. The melody, well, it's follows patterns typical to the more commercial trance. But it works. To me, it falls into an sort of easy listening category, it's there and you don't have to think too much about it.

I had a bit trouble playing the track through MT, seems it's a bit of a resource hog. I wasn't however able to find anything directly that could have been done in order to improve performance. Tracks were routed and VSTe's seemed to have a purpose in all cases, so I can only assume the artist did what could be done to optimize everything.

In the end, a good quality track if you adjust the snare. If you're into the type of trance music that played on viva in the late 90's then this is for you. For me, the cheese factor was a bit too high in this one. It could work in more mainstream oriented clubs though.

ATB... err Pyrozane's entry's for this MT compo is some very classical but almost flawlessly tracked eurodance/trance track with an awesome melody that stays in your head all day long. That guy damn knows how to compose hit stuff ! I love that track that is my personnal favorite among all this year's entries. And I promise it has nothing to do with the fact that I'm in the greets of this great songwriter. It's just because we probably share the same tastes in music.

Originality : OK, in fact, it's not really original. But how can one be original within euro music ? You can't even rate originality within this genre that is so codified. But as all the stuff around it is so great I won't give him a bad mark on what is the only real drawback of this song. Some synth leads could have been more original tough. The guitar stuff is nice and would have been very original... if ATB hadn't done it before. So originality is the only (slightly) weak point of this entry. Ah, if you had a decent singer in this one, not only would your originality mark have been higher by 2 points but your entry could have reached some legend status like Sonic's "Project Stardust" (BMP compo 2, 1998).

Theme : Flawless euro music. Everything flows. Pyrozane is probably one of the best melodists in the present tracking scene. Same comment as for Pelle B. here : Some songwriting contracts are definitely to be signed here ! Get ready to leave Trondheim for some warm southern pacific island paradise villa you might soon own if some big mu$ic €x€cutiv€$ get on your tracks !

Arrangement : Pyrozane knows where he goes and does everything all right to acheive his goal.

Technical : Two issues :
- A stronger bassdrum please.
- Thanks Yannick for providing us with an OGG export of this track. 37 channels full of realtime softsynths, CPU demanding VST fxs, routings from track to track and stuff like this make me wonder if your track does not require the NASA's main computer to run it properly in it's tracked version... Not everyone runs on a top end machine. Mine (a 2.8 Ghz machine) is definitely too slow for this entry.
Besides this everything's fine.

ABOUT THE SNARE : To my opinion, it's indeed loud... but good ! A similar snare is used by one of the best charted songs in France ("Gabriel" by Najoua Bleyzel), and it brings a lot to the overall feel of the track.

Quality : Things can always be improved...but not much, so it will be a 10 :-)

Global : What else could I give to the song that is on the top of my general playlist since I downloaded it, far above even it's commercial alternatives ?

People like you kill the music industry much more than P2P does, because you show that with some freeware softsynths and a $50 programm one can do stuff that record industry executives only believe to be acheivable in big studios, and therefore you show to the face of the world that musicians do not need them anymore to acheive great stuff, even within what is their usual playground : Music for the masses.

So if you wake up one day in a cell, sharing it with DVD Jon, don't wonder why :-)

Also something that I'll probably copy-paste 3 billion times within this reviewing process : NAME YOUR TRACKS ! This would give your audiance and us judges a better view of how your track is built, will help newbies to learn how to use MT and to beat you in next year's compo :)

a happy pop trance track with nice melodies and some good production points.
originality - trance is a very difficult genre to be original in, but there is enough variety in this track to keep it interesting and moving throughout. the synths, bass etc are all pretty standard and the vocal is standard trance issue.
theme - the overall mood is very nice, and the pads, synths and samples all fit together well. the drums samples however sound out of place in the track, in particular the snare. the melodies used are uplifting bordering on cheesy although this is highlighted by the portamento on the lead synth.
arrangement - the track jumps around a lot which keeps it interesting throughout. there are a couple of nice touches in there, like the transposition at 3:16 which is nicely done. there is a clear structure of chorus bridge verse etc which is all well executed with smooth transitions between each.
technical - all the basics are there, a sub bass, mid/low bass, pads and synths all fill out the track nicely. the kick sounds out of place in this track, not enough kick and too long release on the bass part (especially noticeable in the breakbeat). the acoustic snare sounds out of place in a purely synth track and would be better if replaced by a 909 snare. also the percussion is very basic, with hihats, snare and drum, but does change often throughout the track (which is a plus point).
the use of vst fx does improve the sound of the track significantly, the chorus and the exciter both have a big impact on the track and are well used. using a compressor on a drum track will improve the sound a great deal, a trick which has been missed out on here.
quality - the use of vstis and fx again shows the difference they make. using presets for the pads gives the track a fairly generic feel, but overall the quality is very good, marred by the percussion (that snare in particular.

summary - a well executed if generic trance track which has a lot of variation, pleasant melodies and nice layering of instruments. percussion and a lack of originality knock points off overall
