Genre: sort of game music?

A boring tune with an unclear main theme and an equal unclear direction of where it's heading. There seems to be no communicative goal of what the author wants to give to the listener. As the author already explains in the song message, he made a track in a genre where he normally doesn't dwell. The problem is that this is very well audible, since he failed. The track itself doesn't contain any technical flaws, the balance of instruments, volumes and frequencies is well crafted, but it's just too average and grey to stand out in any way.

Powerdown, one of the many hardcore producers that use madtracker came up with this easy listening track.

I think the sounds work well together, and there is a good buildup in the track, it's just that it realy want's to go to the 4 on the floor kick patterns all the time but never gets there...
In all the drums could use a bit more spicy ness, it's a bit simple right now.

Try to work on a good bassline that realy blends the melody and the rhythm together, it lacks that right now.

All in all it's a good attempt at a new style!

Keep it up!

A downtempo piece with a sort of slow start. To be honest, I got bored after 1 minute. The track keeps repeating the same short melody snippet in various incarnations all through up to the 2 minute marker, but by then it was too late. I had already lost interest. After this the track sported another melody snippet for a while and again with few modifications. On to round three, where yet another melody version get's featured up to the finale, where the fourth melody snippet enters.

So, what was wrong? Well, this track felt as if it was chopped up in four parts. One part played and when that could no longer be exploited with good consious the track moves on to the next part. Try to mix the various parts a bit more and not just build up one part and then move on to the next never to revisit the first part.

I like the layering of sounds that goes on around the 3 minute marker though. Had some very cool flows from one thing to another. I also like the choice in lead instrument. This was just the instrument that could pull of being in charge for the entire track.

The lead with submelodies has a long decay it seems, which in turn tends to make the track sound a bit muddy. It's a bit like playing the piano and having the pedal pressed down all the time. I'd experiment with lowering the decay rate for the instruments a bit.

Interesting, but structurewise just not there.

Kinda easy listening entry, while it's not bad, this entry is kinda ruined by under-the-average samples (hint : Multi-sample real instruments like the piano), giving the whole piece some harpichord feeling. Too bad you didn't enter your song at MT compo 1706 (unplugged of course!) but MT compo 2006

The main drawback is the lack of distinct theme. Of course I hear notes, but no theme I could hum or whatever, and no strong mood is set neither. While the intro is nice, the overall track gets boring quite fast...

Arrangement kinda works within the genre, while it's not extraordinary neither.

Technically, I expected the use of a few VST FXs that could have made your entry less dull, but on the upside, I must say the mixing is overall OK, even if there are some frequency overlaps here and there, and if some sounds (the crash cymbal for exemple) does not suit in this track.

An average entry. Not really good, but not really bad neither.

My hint : Music should be something that provides strong feelings, while your entry almost provides me no feelings : typically the kind of music one composes (this includes myself) when he/she's out of inspiration. Let's hope to hear something stronger, with more feelings in it in your MT compo 2007 entry. I'm sure you can do it.
