It's 21:01, just got out of work and look at the review list here at madtracker.org.
First on the list is Silver by Peter Horrevorts
With an unopend beerbottle on my desk I start to listen, and boy what a fine expirience it was.
Genre - Place in the genre
Well, this one's trance for shure, and not the cheesy commercial kiddy trancy happy joy joy boom ching beat trance that you hear here on the radio in holland, no it is the trance that I fell in love with 5 years ago.
So I guess that this track realy fits well in the trance genre.
But it doesn't realy add much to the genre, well that obvious, because there isn't much to add the the genre otherwise you'll be making an different style.
( raymond, your drifting... )
The Theme - Is it catchy??
Well, the track consists of 2 theme's
One is the more rhythmic melody that contributes to the main beat.
It's a known fact that rhytmical melody's don't realy stay in your head long.
But the other theme, is an nice synth line, wich realy is staying in my head right now, and probably will be all evening!
The Writting - Is all the stuff in place?
All you people know that when I write a review I almost alway's b*tch and moan about the rhytm, that it's to cheesy or to undynamic or stuff.
Well, this guy has got it right, in the middle there is an nice old 808 breakdance beat, wich is used to get an climax to the big part, and the main beat itself realy get's out, I've tested it out in the club I work as an sound engeneer and with some compression/limeting of the PA system this track realy works!
The beat also works because there is a good bassline and supporting fx ( the woman ooh-ooh is cool, short delay though ).
The bits the bytes and the Madtracker functions
Since this is an madtracker compo I am watching the use of the madtracker functions.
In this track the functions are used, not to much and not to little, wich compremises between playabillaty and quality.
There is some automation but not to mutch.
About the mastering part, some people may say the mastering is inpossible in madtracker, well mastering is more then compressing so I'll be watching the EQ spectrum and some other ( pre-mastering) techniques to.
I have to say that this track is quite good even without proffy mastering but the thing that ignores me is the extreme bass sound.
It's realy to loud and I needed to cut alot of bass to hear the track at it's best, so if you should master it put an highpass over the bass ( not the kick ) or use some proffy mastering program.
Quality - nice?
The samples are all cristal clear and are realy good, I like the drum sounds verry much and the rhytmical synth is also awsome.
Global
This track realy stands out in the trance that we mostly hear from the madtracker users, and it realy kicks ass ( me being a not so trance fannatic ;) ).
This track realy makes a long jump to the top, lets see if she can make it...

The first song to enter the compo, and probably one of the bests. The quality, structure, programming and melodies of this trance track are of a rare & very high level. The song starts right of with a phat sound, which remains all through the song. Everything seems to be right about this song. The main synth, known from chicage's offshore, in combination with the phat beats and professionality of the sound (panning, frequencies, volumes etc) gives a really great sounding song. Especially the 808-electro beats between the parts of the song makes this song stand above the crowd, because it's not as lineair as the rest of the trance-entries. Although ES is considered to be the sensai in mt-world, this song proves that their surely is more quality to be found. The only two remarks I can make is that the 'singing' pad in the bridge of the song is maybe too sweet; it would fit better in the line of the song to use a more aggresive sounding synth here. Second remark is the vocal which is being used; some sort of 'whowoh', which sounds too childish and decreases the overall professionality of the song.
Besided these two little notes this song surely rocks and will have a big chance of being in the top 3!
