Since the beginning of the area of electronic music people have tried to make rock/metal in trackers. It didn't work out that often, and Don't tell me isn't a exception to this rule. This instrumental metal track made me think of in flames/dark tranquility, with lots of variations in riffs & solo's. The problem is that the melodies, which are rich available in this song, aren't interesting enough; only at 1.40-1.55 I got excited, but then the song just ended.
Ofcourse the guitars don't sound good enough; pitch-bending of guitar samples always sounds unnatural. The bassdrum sounds synthetic thin, and the structure is not good; instrumental metal needs two things to remove the loss of vocals, namely melodies and structure (for instance the metallica's 'call of ktulu' is a classic example). Because both of these elements are available in a acceptable manner this song isn't to be qualified as good.
To the artist; know what you start with when making metal in a tracker. Sample every note you use of every guitar/bassguitar you use to keep the quality as high as possible. Work very well on the melodies you make, because they really have to be very interesting. Work on the structure, in order to get the listener into the song and leaving him there untill the song ends.
