This is the review of Expected Night by David Redman

Game music, I'm into it myself lately and I know the difficulty to build a good theme, it's a hard process.
Let's see how David did.

Original
Well yes!
The theme is great and the way it's played is also completely awsome!
You could however try to get some more instruments into play, some more autechre style synths maby ( well nevermind that I just like autechre ;) ).

The Theme (song?)
Well as said above the theme is quite good!
However, It would be cool to have a bridge or something similar in the track, with a completely different but fitting melody.

Arrangement
Do you use a midi keyboard?
Because the piano notes are great!
The are almost the real thing, the sample could use a little polishing though.
The drums are abit to easy, maby you could enhance them a bit...

The technical stuff
The use of madtracker effects are good, but they could get better, try to practice alot with automation, it realt 'automates' your music making experience and adds a layer of profiness to your tracks.

Quality
The track is a bit hollow, nothing stands out and that's deffinatly because of the samples, it would be cool to enhance these samples to let them cheer up a bit.

Global
This is a verry original track, it could use some polishing on the technical/mixing side, but the arranging and the composing is just simply great!
Keep it up!

An impressive and thematical song, which certainly deserves attention. The whole song is 'disturbed' by background noise, creating a rather unique audio-enviroment/atmosphere. This depressive song made me think back to my doommetal period, when songs like these were used as intermezzo's or intro's on albums. If this song was worked out properly it would really get high marks, but there are some mistakes here and there. The drums in this song sound too synthetic, while a genre like this really deserves and need authentic and real drums with full frequencies. David Redman decided to use a violin and a piano as lead instruments; the violin is beautiful, the piano isn't; it's too sharp, too clear for this song. It sounds okay in the bridge, but during the song this piano gets rather irritating and falls out the musical spectrum which is so properly build up. Last thing would be that especially with a song like this it's very easy to even give more mood/atmosphere by simply sampling a obscure sentence out of a movie and using it in the song. Another thing would be an unexpected break, because the structure is functional but not original.

Good theme and mix.
