Pretty unusual song. Strange, but cool. Strange sounds and effects, cool basslines, hats and stuff. Really strange effects on track 7, but as I said, really cool.

I don't know if platipus is still such a big trance label as it was in 1998, but this song falls in tradition with most of the music released there. Whadafakk gives a hybrid of trance and dreamhouse, with drifting melodies and little alterations. The lead melody is really extremely nice, and in combination with the nice 303ish bassline, the cool panning and the right instrument choice this gives a good, but rather minimal overall sound. Both the mix as the sample quality are good, but the entire song, besides the leadsynth, seems to be panned left. I wonder why that is, but maybe it has something to do with achieving a higher state of consciousness or something (wink josh wink?). At 2.50 there are snare variations, but that's just what this song didn't need; in this style of trance the beats should help creating the atmosphere and should not alter them.
The structure is confusing, because (besides a weird but amusing melody change at 3.55) after the song started nothing really new happens.
Overall a good, but too thin sounding dreamy trance track with a very good melody and some interesting aspects.
To the artist; make more of this song! Try making the frequency spectrum fuller through additional basspads & mid-strings. Keep the beats in line with the song. In the atmosphere this song has you can experiment more with 'floating' melodies and samples or FX. Due to the lack of FX & speech you miss points concerning identity, but the general idea, and most of how it is build is very nice.
