Never knew people used mt2 as a sequencer instead of composing tool, but this song prooves that even hiphop can be made in mt2. Most important about hiphop are the vocals and the beats. The vocalist surely has talent, because his voice has been used clean in this song and still sounds rather attractive. The beats are okay, but should be more pumping and should need more drive. The melody, which is formed with a piano, is nice, but much too soft; there's also some sort of fade-in violin, which really gave me some gravediggaz-feeling.
The track itself suffers from it's flat structure and the minimal length.
Overall a nice track to hear, because you won't hear this very often in mt2, but hasn't been worked out properly.
To the artist; there are various parameters which should be optimised in order to make the song as good as the potential that it gots. First the vocals; use more effects on them. This can be done in two ways; process them external (for instance soundforge or cooledit) and give them more low & compress, excite, reverb and delay them) or use them better internal (mpreverb, stereodelay). Especially the fact that they are clipped sounds very unprofessional.
Second the beats; good thing here would be if you would first sequence the beats, then export & process them and then re-enter them in mt2.
Third the melody: the violin is really okay, but the piano sounds dull & does not add to the identity of the song. Either use a much better piano sample with a better position in the mix or generate your own unique sound which gives the song more character.
Last the structure; make the song longer and play around more with structure; add & remove the beats, make patterns 16 ticks longer once in a while etc.
I really would like to hear this song again when these things are managed, because your voice really has potential!
