Quick Start Guide
3. Creating an instrument
Now, let's get into concrete stuff: the creation of an instrument.
In real life, you need instruments to make music. It is no different in MadTracker.
Here we will quickly explain how you can create an instrument and load a sample into it.

First of all, locate the New Instrument button and click on it.

A new instrument will be created with the (rather obvious) name "New instrument".
Double-click on it to open the instrument editor window.

In this new window, locate the Load Sample button and click on it.
A file selector window will pop up. Pick any compatible audio file that you have on your computer (such as WAV, AIF or IFF).

Once you have loaded an audio file, MadTracker will automatically link it to your current instrument.
It will then appear in the sample list of the instrument.

You can now press some keys of your PC or MIDI keyboard to hear the instrument in action.
The instrument editor window will show what notes are currently playing.
| In MadTracker, instruments and samples are independent. That way, you can re-use a sample in
any number of instrument(s) you like in order to apply different envelopes for instance. |
