please check out my new track and let me know what you think:

My friends and family are all rubbish at giving feedback ("ooh that sounds very nice", is about as constructive as it gets).
there is an mt2 version on my (terrible) website, but is cpu heavy.
thanks

Sort of nice. It makes me think of more recent work by Orbital, but then with a more polished trance sound, and in a more boring fashion. The bassline and the strings are nice, but there's a lack of excitement and surprise. It's more a soundtrack for Wipeout where the listener does not want to be bothered with the music, but does want to listen to something.
Point.mp3 is in desperate need of a proper beat section that would give the song some drive. A strong, driving hihat loop would give the song more speed and energy. An alternative approach would be to do more unconventional things with the bassline and strings, or add a real lead instrument. It now falls a bit between interesting and uplifting, and not being either of those.

right'o. I like the melody as such, especially the one played by synth stabs(?). Like Inge said though, this track needs some heavy work in the beat section. The percussions are ok imo (could perhaps have some more variation), but what the tune definetly lacks is a driving kick. The kickdrum gets lost under all the other sounds, it's too weak simply.
I'm not too fond of the lead strings/pads either. They sound very ordinary with their swooshing sound.
Overall, a track with potential, but a lack of interesting elements and instruments make it a bit boring. |

You're both absolutely right. I was pretty lazy with adding any extra instruments or effects in, but I do like how clean the VSTis sound, it'll give me a track to go back to in few weeks and add in whats necessary to make it good.
thanks very much for the feedback.
