Loving this track! It sounds a bit empty sometimes, but in this case I think it's good. Some parts are maybe repeated a bit too long (which might contribute to my feeling that the track is a bit too long), but overall this is cool stuff.
About the break, I thought it was fine. But if you want to change something, then I would play with the vocals to the extent that you can't tell what they're actually saying anymore. Chop them up, play in reverse, chop up and play parts in revers, put a resonating reverb on them, whatever. Just don't make the vocals stand out like they do now. Make them part of the background to get a floor of dreamy soundscapes... |

Ok,
I`we listened to it a couple of times now and I agree with Sunbuster on the length. There is a break at about 5.50 into the song, and it is really good stuff - but I guess it kinda make me wonder what the first part was all about. It made me think that the intro was way to long. You could cut away the first 5 minutes and you`d still have a strong track. The same would also be true if you cut away the last 5 minutes and kept the first part...
I really liked the voices, espacially the way they worked together. Perhaps the concept of "just a dream" is a bit clichè-ish.
Anyway, I enjoyed listning to it to the extent that I have played it a bit the last two days - so I guess that really says it all. |

I would love to have those skills with the drums
I totally agee with Sunbuster and Martin, little to long foreplay and the vocals could be worth experimenting with. Other than that, great track! |

OK, Listened to your stuff and here comes my opinion on it.
As I seem to hear many VST instruments, I guess the .mt2 version of the file isn't that huge. I'ld like to know if it could be possible to get this version somewhere. I agree to what Novus once said a few years ago : As nowadays trackers release their stuff as .mp3/.ogg, younger generation cannot discover (and master) the arts of tracking by learning from how experienced trackers do their stuff, and I guess most of us owe a lot to our "great masters" (Lizardking, Purple motion,...) on this issue.
Now about the song itself :
The goods points :
- Great (quite underground but already much more suitable for mainstream audiances than your latest track) trance track as usual when QBical's on the keys.
- A great demo of what Drumatic 3 can produce ! (BTW, is there a good TR-909 VST emulator or atleast a good TR-909 preset available for drumatic 3 ?)
- Nice sound research (as usual, QBical is in da place)
The less good points :
- This almost sine-alike pad gives you use it all a too-empty sound. I don't really like this pad I would have changed for a fuller sound. Besides this, this pad scares my cat (!) altough I listened to your track at low volume. I'ld change that pad.
- Length is OK for trance music & club uses, but for radio airplays, you should get a shorter version. |
Switzerland : #1 earthquake provider! (Bootyshakin' Willhelm Tell ?!?) |

You are absolutely right...
The main reason is indeed the usage of VST plugins, plugins that are not freeware that is...
But as somebody already commented the drums, those are made with mere samples and the drumatic plugin, wich is free...
Anyway you can download the MT2 file here...
But you do need these plugin for good playback:
Fabfilter One
Drumatic 3
Reaktor 5
Albino 2
Texture
Sample Reducerer
Retro Delay
Steinberg Stereo Expander
Reaktor 5 is used for the compressors in the track, you can listen without if you want, and the rest are synths. I thought that only Reaktor and Albino are non free plugins so you could listen to it without them and download the others, search the plugin database for url's
If you have any questions about the usage of effects/samples/technique let me know here and I will explain it futher...
I'm realy just finding my groove with all these tracks i'm producing lately. I did some minimal-techno stuff but I always come back to these kinds of tracks. I even stopped Dj'ing, just to focus more on my live act, should be having a powerbook soon with ableton live
This al because of my recent hero's in electronic music, Nathan Fake and James Holden, and almost all the other artist on the Border Community label. ( you can listen to tracks on that website )
The music is melodical but not trance, it's to 'progressive' ( i hate that word ) for that, but it's not progressive, and it ain't deephouse either...
It's just the 'emotion' I want to create with my music.

Think this is your best work so far, Qb.
Earlier the Noise-generators have been set to loud for my pleasure. But this was real progressive beats wraped in with some nice atmosphere pads and vocals.
PS! How do you manage to break the 5-10minutes barrier everytime you make a song? I am glad when the song finally hits 2 minutes! |
