The "Simple samples - hard plugins" challenge!
----------------------------------------------
The object is to take an empty module, some simple samples and with the power of your skills, madtracker and vst plugins make something that sound a lot better than the individual parts it was made of!
Here is the base module:
http://souleye.madtracker.net/The%20Simple%20Samples.mt2
* You may use the samples in this module and 2 extra samples, no more than 100kb each
* You may use only VSTe's (VST Effects), meaning: No VSTi (Instruments) that produce sound, only those that modify it!
* You may use only FREE VSTe's, and you must supply a download location for them!
* If you use MT bundled VSTe's you do not have to tell the download location...
* You must use at least 2 VSTe's that are NOT bundled.
* Max total combined size for your plugins should be below 20 megabytes.
* You may use any number copies of these samples, in any number of instruments
* You may edit the provided base samples. Chip, transpose, reverse and so on... Whatever you like. You can loop and envelope them etc too. But try not to edit them much - this compo is about plugins, not what you can do with sound in a sample editor.
* The song must be longer than 1 minute and shorter than 4 minutes.
* You are encouraged to be creative with the plugins!
Deadline for this compo is 1/6/2k6.
Send your entries per email to "souleye at comhem dot se", if they are below 2mb. If bigger, use yousendit. Of course you could try me on MSN too, again "souleye at comhem dot se", but you have to get hold of me there first though!
Winners will be judged on:
* VSTe usage
* Song overall quality
The winner wins glory and fame! Runner-ups are also winners because of the VSTe's they get a free demonstration of! |

Sounds interesting, but I'm very amateur with VSTs, especially non-sound-producing VSTs. However, I might have a go and experiment and see what I end up with. Interesting idea. |

Right. This compo is about learning, and not really a compo for winning fame and glory. The winners are therefore: ALL CONTESTANTS who have PUSHED THEMSELVES FURTHER than they were before!
...And the real story is that this is going to take a while to understand the songs and grade them (3 of them), because one needs to understand the VSTes used...
In the meantime, you can yourself vote above on the entry you thought used VSTes most creatively...

Hello, this is "Category234 (etc.)"
Seems like there were some difficulties delivering my mail with the entry. I was a few hours late in the first place, which was bad in itself, yet I sent the mail around midnight 01.06.06 and hoped for the best. I checked my mail now, and there had obviously been a mail delivery error.
Anyway - it's not a big issue, as the main idea of the compo was to force yourself into improving sound, which I think I did in this one. Maybe not a master piece, but I learned a few things. I didn't know VSTe's would improve sound that much - at least not for 'simple' samples.
EDIT: The entries were great - very interesting, a bit more 'modern' sounding than my piece. |

qbical: I even reminded you on IRC :/ .... Edit your forum preferences so that you get mails whenever a thread you've posted in gets a new post.
category: A shame, use yousendit for files larger than 2mb. Also, please remove my email from being in clear text (bots harvest this forum for email adresses to spam).
