well, maybe they don´t capture the spirit, but if correct handled they can raise the quality of a song a lot. and a good vst synthesizer gives much more sound quality then a sample played on different notes could ever give. for sure it´s always depending on the kind of music you want to create... |

True that!
If you wanna add sound quality use VSTīs.
If you wanna keep the spirit then dont . |

actually I think that you sort of simulate synths with some trick. if you see the modules of for example Tempest who even adds the sound of filters to the leads sounds just by using different instruments. that is awesome.
AND I HAVE TO SAY: THE SCENE IS NOT DEAD
I guess it is not as alive as it was like 10 years ago but there are still many communities like BotB or modarchive. |

*jumping in*
Just thought I should give my two cents... In my opinion, the scene isn't dead. It's certainly a little bit less vibrant than before, but there's still a strong core of users. I also think that those who say that using plugs etc. goes against the "spirit" of tracking are, perhaps, somewhat misguided. I use plugs exclusively on my tracks, but I still consider myself a tracker. Ultimately though, it's not *how* you create the sound, but the sound you create.
I do like the idea of a Module repository, but isn't this role already fulfilled somewhat by the Mod Archive? At places like TraxInSpace, you initially upload an MP3, true; however, you can also upload the source file for your track. I do this; for me, even if they don't have the same plugs, and don't hear the music, it's exactly the same as looking at the score for a piece of music. The module itself is *not* the music. It's merely the representation of the music.
All that being said, I wish you well in your endeavours.

Good point... Why don't we just use plugs that came with Madtracker, then?
P.S. sorry for being noobish. |
