 |
I think it's time to do the first step...
The 3rd Big Compo should start in early 2004. Before that I need to organize everything concerning the prizes.
I will contact MAZ about it and see if he can support the compo like last time. And I also have some contacts with an electronic music shop in Belgium.
But the most interesting prize should be the CD we've talked about earlier. It would be a promotional CD with lots of data content besides the audio part. I think that was the formula that pleased you the most in the previous topic.
I could have very interesting prices concerning the pressing of the CD, where 1000 units would cost the same price as 500 making the unit price very low.
I hope everything will turn out well concerning the prizes. If not, there will still be a compo anyway.
So now I need to gather reviewers and ideas. Use the compo@madtracker.org e-mail to send me your offers/ideas.
And if you know someone or some company who would like to sponsor the compo, notify me with this e-mail too.
Thanks!

I need ideas for these two parts:
- How to make the CD appealing even if the results are published on the website?
- What to put on the CD (besides the audio part)? (Artists pages, tutorials, how-to's, softwares, etc.)
Use this thread as some brainstorming. I want Feedback!

By :
- Featuring the top 10 tracks as MASTERED audio CD tracks
- Advertising it !
About the advertisement part : I had an appointment yesterday with a young singer who was looking for a composer to create songs for her (Sunbuster : Indeed it was what I needed : to team up with a singing lady!). I got the info from a local newspaper. At the appointment, I also met the journalist who wrote the article about that girl. I made them (both the girl and the journalist) listen to several of my tracks (including my MT compo 2 entry "Dreams for Tomorrow") and they were both astonished. I told them the software that was running on my laptop (MT2.3) was the work of a 24 years old student from Belgium. When I told him this, he found this amazing and told me that the fact music can nowadays be made with such pieces of software was an excellent advertisement argument. He told me it should be no problem to "make some buzz" around it... and therefore promote that CD !
BTW Sunbuster : In my last years compo entry your review told me to find a singer for a potential MT compo 3...she just phoned me to tell me she wants to take part in MT compo 3 with me

Atleast the original .mt2s of the compo and an unregistered version of MT2. Imagine the strength of this marketing argument : Included for free on the disk, the software that allowed to create this amazing music !
Every "I wanna be a star" records buyer would storm the shop to buy that CD !

That's some good news TNK!
I can't wait to see things getting concrete...
I had a little idea... (That singer story reminded me about it)
What about having a 2nd minor compo in the big compo?
Like: you should implement the voice of someone saying "MadTracker" in the song. The best voice would be featured on the next version's splash screen.

hmm what you also can do is after somebody uploaded the mt2, convert all samples to 8bit. and just use the 16bit version for the CD!
then it will generate less datatraffic as well!

Julie (the singer I found) has a very good voice. I think she could do such a thing. Just tell me what genre of voice expression you need (funny, relaxed,...)
About that "minor" compo...well, wait and see

I guess there will be a filesize limit (20 megs zipped would sound cool) for the compo version of the song. The CD version should of course be possibly larger but in no way "artistically" different. Only better (16 bit, stereo,...) sample qualities & such "enhancements" should be allowed. |

that's not what i meant.
i mean, everybody can leech the song for reviewing/listening (to) it right?
so that can be low quality.
if you want the whole compo cd, you have to pay for it and get all the samples at the highest quality.
so then it IS interesting to buy the cd. because 8bit is wreally crap nowadays. (hehe the old mod-edit/st3/protracker days rule btw. maxlength: 64000 bytes lol) |

I think it would be a very nice reward if the top ten entries got their personal artist promotion page at the cd(rom). Make one html page for the top ten artists that gives information on the artist/history/achievements/background/photo and a link to the rest of their music. This way the actual prizes would go further than 'just' physical prizes, but would also push the artist further in their quest for musical recognition.

Interesting little tidbits?
Say, one of those "promotional" screensavers? Or screen wallpapers or something?
Have you made any joke-programs out of boredom lately? Like a MadTrackagotchi or something? |
