|
im using creative inspire 5.1 2300 speakers on a mobo which supports 6.1 surround sound...
Im wondering if it may be possible to create a mod which can designate audio to either of four main audio channels:
left front
right front
left rear
right rear
that would be amazing to see and hear |

That would be amazing, but i don't think it's possible. Quite few people even listen music from surround system so i think it's not necessary.
Allthought it is possible to make a surround feeling just with 2 speakers or headphones. It has something to do with delays and echoes. There might be some programs for this, and if you made a stereosaple with that ihavenoideawhertogetthisprogram you could then insert it to mt. |

hmm... from what i recall (which may or may not be right), an inveresed wave plays on rear speakers? and madtracker does in fact have an inverse function - you move the sample panning all the way to the right..
right?

Isn't there something like that on the samples tab?
Move panning all the way to the left, where panning is noted as "P"
Or something like that |

there is yes, but I'm not sure if the P setting in the sample tab actually sends the signal to the surround channels, or if it simply emulates a surround channel by widening the stereo image to 180 degrees or something like that. |

well thats what i meant; in the sample tab, set the panning all the way to the left (uhh not to the right as i previously mentioned) to get the P - this way the stereo image gets inversed thus going to the surround speakers..

With delay it's possible since the brain can calculate the time interval between hearing the sound first in one of the ears and then in the other ear. In that way we can hear where the sound source is from within 2 degrees (or less) resolution horizontally and within 9 degrees resolution vertically*. Remember, we've only got two ears, but we can hear in 3D anyway ..

Though, I don't see the point of using this in a music production |

what do you mean by the stereo image getting inversed? isn't inverse just a phaseshift of 180 degrees? How would that affect where the signal goes?
does this P setting really send a separate signal to the surround outputs of your speaker system? If I have my soundcard in Quad speaker mode and play an MT2 with a sample that's "P":d, then I still hear the same sounds in both the line out that goes to the surround speakers (in my case headphones), as I hear in the front speakers. Judging by this, the sound isn't actually sent separately to a surround speaker, the illusion of surround sound is just created using stereo imaging. Don't know, maybe I have some setting wrong on my soundcard that makes it send identical signals to both outputs...
I would hope that Yannick would step in and tell us how his "P" system works, that would clear all doubts |

I can recommend a personal favourite of mine, Spinworks 3Ddelays (vst-plugin). Works like a charm. Of course this either requires that you wait for MT3 or use a midi-sequencer (don't even think of mentioning renoise etc )
btw, have anyone gotten a hold of any of Infected Mushroom's 7.1 tracks? |

...but all in all Surround-Productions are not possible in MT because the programm has only one stereo-out.
Maybe you should try Cubase SX 2.0 for that, it´s fully "surround compatible".

Well if you'd want to create atmospheres in your music i can see the point. I mean in some genres, in ambient or soundtrack kind of tracks it would be kinda cool if you could create a feeling that you are middle of something.
