New tune!

Yeah, I've made a new tune available at
http://c-frog.madtracker.net ! ...

It's an ambient/chillout-tune, and it's called "The Rivulet's Vision" (hehe)!

There's no detailed info available yet, I will put up that later on; have to write it first Wink ...

But I've used following hardware:
Roland JV1010, Freebass FB383, Novation BassStation, Yamaha Silent Brass for Euphonium, Boosey&Hawkes Euphonium, Behringer Composer Pro (compressor), Behringer Eurorack MX2004A (mixer) blablablabla....

This is no MT2 production, therefore I've chosed to put the file on another server, though it's available from my music page.

/Daniel

*bump*

Very nice! It's a bit too cheesy and friendly for me (I would have liked a more dark twist in it), but the overal sound is very nice, and I definately like the (right-panned) toms and acidline that swirls through it. The blend of classical music is also well done.

I like it. Nice atmosphere.. Wink Unfortunately, it sounds like a start of a song all the way to the end in some way. Nice though as background music for an exhibition or such Wink.

Err.. Well, it is backgroundmusic. That's the whole point with chillout/ambient tunes, that you should just let the music get you into a relaxed mood Smile

Thanx for your comments though!

Shocked This is AMAZING! Shocked

Exactly the kind of music I like!

Sorry for my (probably) dumb question but how did you get the main sound? I mean, the kind of "strings" sound that makes you feel like you're floating in the air?

Thanx a lot!!!

First of all, I hope that you've noticed that this is no MT2-production. Ofcourse it would be possible to do such thing in MT2, but a bit more .. hmm .. complex (hard to choose right word). This is because it is hard to record long samples and then use in the mix.
Now, you might ask why in the world I post such song here, but it's just because I still use MT2 today, and have friends (and foes) here, which might be interested to listen to all my work, regardless which composing tool I use.

Anyway, the main sound, which I assume you mean is the Euphonium, is made by playing my Euphonium instrument Wink. An brass instrument which looks like a tuba, but is in the same tone "area" as an trombone, but has more silky sound. It's recorded via my Yamaha Silent Brass equipment. Then ofcourse, there were quite much work with the EQ settings Wink

Hey, thanks a lot for your answer. Very Happy

I have so much to learn about QUALITY ambient (and melodic transe) music production, since I started a couple of weeks ago to consider the idea of making my own. From your first post indeed, I knew your tune wasn't made with MT2. The reason I wanted to learn a bit more about the equipt you've been using for this tune is that I know nothing at all about that kind of hardware.

But quality slow-paced songs like your are exactly what I am trying to produce for a bunch of zero-budget slowed paced "dystopia" (opposite of utopia) Science Fiction kind of short movies we are shooting with a couple of friends. To get a better idea of the kind of songs I am trying to achieve, feel free to have a look to my first tune ever (was my own way to learn how to use a tracker), which is based on "Grandfather" (from Synop) Embarassed , but heavily re-worked as you can hear: http://arkham.madtracker.net/Grandfather-reworked.mp3

Thanks for the info about your "Euphonium". Although I would appreciate to know everything about your song, the sound I had in mind to ask about initially wasn't that one. What I'd like to know is which synth did you use to produce the continuous sound we can hear pretty much all the time. And also the somewhat similar one which sounds a little bit "like a flute"? In fact, I'd like to know about each sound, except the "TB-303"-like (which I can produce with Rebirth which I've been playing with for a couple of days) and the drums (which I can produce with MT2 Wink ).

Do you think I could possibly reach the same results with Reason 2.5 (which I consider purchasing too, but know nothing about so far) and its synth? Any soft synth you could recommend? Or should I definitly consider investing in some hardware? If so, what should I start with?

Embarassed Sorry for asking so many questions at the same time Embarassed Embarassed

Thank you so much for your help.

First of all, your link did not work! So I could not listen.. Sorry!

Almost all sounds are from hardware synths. The synthstrings in the background are from my Roland JV1010 sound module. It has lots of lots of good sounds, which is easy to use.. Hmm, I have to listen to the tune to remember what is what.. Be right back.... wrooom .. hrm..

There are a few samples aswell, in the rhythm for example, I've sampled a plastic bottle (coca cola like) bouncing to the ground, and also a fry pan which I smash into one of my hotplates. There are some other samples like a sound from a scissor and a car which drove outside my apartment at a quite high speed one night some year ago Smile

The rest of the rhythm is from my JV1010.
The flute is also from the JV1010, which I use a breath controller put into my master keyboard which I used when I played the flute live; just to get a more "living" sound.0
The Rhodes like sounds are also from JV1010.
The bass is from my Novation BassStation; an analogue sound module.
The "TB303" is from my Freebass FB383; an analogue hardware 303-clone.
The arpeggio a'la C64 is from my Elektron Sidstation.
The "wind sound" and the "supporting" "two clang" on the top of all is played on my euphonium.

I've put quite much effort into getting a not-too-quantisized sound. This is just to get it sound more live.

Guess you won't get any help from this, but it's something at least Wink

/Daniel

Has listened through your tune, and I find it very nice! You're a good composer, that's for sure! I'm not sure what kind of sound you want to achieve, but right now it sounds a bit "thin" ... if you want the kind of sound I did in my tune you need to put up "supportive" stuffs to the main theme, things that's unnecessary for the tune, but necessary to get a good sound. Know what I mean? Smile
Also, you could try to put on some good strings in the background, which makes the sound a bit more warm. It's all a matter of finding good raw material to work with, and/or make your own ones.

Very Happy Thanks for all your answers!

I guess I'd have to put a JV1010 on my "Ebay's To-Buy-List". I really like some of the sounds you get from this module. Razz

I never heard of a "breath controller" before. Gotta have to find some new toys to play with Cool

Thanks also for your tips for my reworked song.

To be honnest, I kinda desired the song to sound a bit "thin" (raw?), at least in the first half of it, cause I sort of worked on it while I was writing a pretty violent-sad-shocking end-scene for one of the scripts I am working on. During the scene itself, I don't think we'd need "supportive stuff" for the music. I want people to feel the raw emotion from the pictures and the raw-tune, and certainly not be distracted by anything "un-necessary".

That's the reason I putted many more stuff (strings...) at the beginning of the second half of the song. Do you think I should put even more "supportive" things in the second half of that tune or does it sound pretty much OK?
