yah.. i didnt say the sound quality was bad.. they just need to construct (word?) their headphones better becuase they break too easy. and i dont think he was knocking you for the headphones you use, just saying what was wrong with them.
sound quality, good
long-lasting? no
buy cheap sonys if you are going to buy... they still have wicked sound. and at least you wont have to buy another $100 pair next time.

Changing the topic "slightly"
I haven't had a set of decks for a long time now - I've got over 2000 records and they've been gathering dust lately.
So, I decided to buy a turntable for my studio - Was going to get the Cliche Technics but decided on Numark. If you are thinking about investing - pick one of these up.

haha! sorry andy.. they look good, they spin good, but they just don't have the soul that SL12's do.. on that note, i think every club should switch to these decks (or the vestax pdx), as they do make spinning records so much easier - the torque is amazing!

Yeah.. Agreed.. The TT is just for home use. Where the Technics is robust, the Numark seems warmer.
Ive just bought a Phono to Line In Converter for the deck too - It plugs straight into my PC now - Brilliant for delay/mpverb scratching etc to create SFX

that's a really good price, considering that the Technics legends will put you back around 500-600€ a piece here in Finland. |

So, just a lame question, if you just want a vinyl spinner, and no need to do any dj'ing like scratching and backspin, what kind of player should I get? It should not be too expensive!

Stanton make very good decks, after all - they are the market leader in cartridges etc.

bah! only cos their carts are dirt cheap..
andy has done his research though.. for non-DJ use, no scratching or anything like that, i'd recommend a standon belt drive (STR-820 ?). or maybe even the gemini XL-200 (the s-shaped tonearm supposedly gives better sound quality). but for an even cheaper solution, is the local second-hand electrical shop. you'd be surprised at the price of an old technics deck (not SL1200) that still works very well.

Also - Dont go for beltdrive..
Why
Because the belt slips, no matter how tight it is. If you are sampling beats you may get a slight variation in the speed. Only tiny but you know how it is.. I wouldn't leave a little thing like that in a tune of mine, every time you listened - you'll hear that "I wish I'd have sorted that break out"
If you buy direct drive, you can digitally lock the pitch.
It's only a small thing, but I think it's important. |

wouldn't go for a belt drive either. The belts tend to wear out sooner than you want them to Also there's the matter of slip'n'slide, like Andy said
EDIT: typo fix |
