This firewall is much lighter than ZA. And once it's well configured, will cause less unexpected problems. But the configuration process may be harder than ZA.

(I do realise that this is an old thread, but still...)
Yes, simple question.
One of my dad's friend's computer got attacked by the msblaster, and is now trying to find a way to restore the computer. Windows is basically screwed, so he's left with MSDOS.

One idea that's come to mind is formatting the drive from MSDOS... Any ideas how?? Confused

Did he try to delete it the way described in the first post of this thread?

i had MSblaster too and my hard disk is till intact.. maybe like mentioned above, he didn't remove it properly? its just a matter of deleting the MSBlaster.exe file, even without editing the registry, if anyone's afraid to screw with it.. if there's no MSBlaster.exe, it won't load it into memory at startup.

Cool

Or put the Win2k CD into your drive, boot on it, and re-install evertything. (It will take care of the partitioning and the format.)

Ok...

1 - Yannick/Brian = "FORMAT C: /U /S /Q"? That's it? Wow, quick and simple Very Happy
2 - C-Frog/Mikx = Well, although he had a firewall up, it finally got through and got him. Although he did delete the file from the computer, he didn't get to it quick enough, and, well, bye bye computer. Apparently, the first thing it bugged was his home e-mail, followed by a range of important programs, and finished with killing windows.
3 - Yannick (more recent message) = Um, actually, he had the entire contents of his installing CD copied over to his hard-drive. His computer never came with the cd, so unless he can either recover the files lost to msblaster, or find a copy of the cd lying around, re-installing is out of the question.
I think he's also running Win98 Confused Smile

Ok, well, I'll try to get that info to him Very Happy
Thanks heaps Very Happy Very Happy Wink

This is a very very very bad practise from resellers! A honest reseller must give all the setup CD's that were part of the computer setup. Doing otherwise is not very legal. So maybe it's time to bug him a litte? Wink

It'd probably be wise not to lend a copy to this guy, even a burnt one! Very Happy

Thanks for the offer though Smile
