Maybe hackers isn't very applicable, but crackers most certainly are. If you ever been in touch with illegal software you know those intro's they have written to promote their group. These guys are basicly from the demoscene or have close ties to them (they do the same stuff).

Indeed the demoscene takes it roots in the cracking scene of the 80's, back on C64 & so. But it has evolved and if some groups still do both demomaking and cracking, some groups are here just for the art.
However, that's why I wouldn't like to focus on the demoscene, and even more on it's roots back on the C64 |
