Ok.. Made another slow next one Inge.. Here's the next one I've made today (partially Logic Platinum - partially Madtracker 2.3 ) (Music from VSTi's and breakbeat and mixing is done with Madtracker). Very slow it is..

Hopefully you like it Inge (and others of course - Especially Sunbuster and Mikx because of their positive reactions) ..
Oh and Inge.. The voice of Spirits of Nature (Slicerxxl.mp3) was actually mine . Just fun to know (I know.. I know.. I am not the best singer.. ..)

Slicer,
Mind you: you release faster than I can listen, and thus my slow reactions
Foundation of the storm is a beauty of a song. The main theme is completely my thing for listening. As Mikx said, it sometimes sounds a bit like SAWII, but it tends to sound more like boards of canada. I wish more producers made complete albums of this sort of atmospheres and music. It would also do great as an intermezzo between two different tracks. Do change your bassdrum, since it's way too much accentuated. You need a muddy, low and smooth bassdrum for this baby.
If this song is already finished (and please, change that bassdrum if you think it is!), please contact me at inge[at]madtracker.org to speak about ways to get me the full 192 kbit/44 bit version, because I really like this one.
And with 'really', I mean r-e-a-l-l-y. That sort of appreciation.
Naiad is, well, an odd song. I'm not as positive as Mikx about it, but you show again great talent and potential, able to explore your qualities in a great diversity of styles. The beginning makes me think of a very nice and smooth progessive techno track, but only if you would use another drumkit than the dreadful 909, and would also be a bit more creative on drumprogramming. I hate double claps and closedhihat-openhihat-closedhihat-openhihat cliche's. The main theme is nice, but sounds very dull (lacks low freq's and excitation, but probably due to the file format). Try removing the complete set of claps and hihats. It might be more nice in a dry version.
The 303'ish sound is too much different from the rest of the song; the filtered main theme is already a classic in my memories The bridge would be fairly excellent if this 303 was altered (another sine and/or with using longer notes).
Slicer: more! more! I am eagerly waiting for you to a: tune your productions more and work them out more properly and b: give us more tunes.
For other readers: yes, I'm biased. SlicerXXL tends to make things I like. But you are all invited to get a similar biased review. Just go out and make ambient, electro, breaks, progressive or drum 'n bass. I know you can do it

Started to remaster SlicerXXL - Foundation of the storm. Thanx for the tips Inge and Mikx! I'll do my best and replace the old one with the new version soon.. I have to learn remastering once don't I?
Also, I signed up for a Lycos / Tripod homepage (thanx for the tip BIG MO) and I'll put the MT2 version of the song temporarily online as soon as the remastered one is finished. Then you all can remaster it once more...

And Inge.. I still do B in future and work more on A. Unfortunately I have less time to compose the next months ( have to spend some more time on my study ) Nevertheless, I'll keep you all up to date when I have new songs finished. But 'new songs on a daily basis' are not to be expected. |

I tried to improve the quality today of Foundation of the Storm... as promised... The file can be found at:
http://slicerxxl.tripod.com/
Hopefully, you all think it's quality is better .
Unfortunately, the MT2 file is (zipped with WinRar) over 23 mb. (Files must be below 20mb at tripod ) So I figured out that the only thing I could do was only putting the seperate wave files online for those who wanted to do a remix. So.. I did . These can also be found at:
http://slicerxxl.tripod.com
These waves will be online till 23-01-04. After this date, I'll remove the files, because of the size of them. |

I liked the old version more than the new version. The intro of the old version is far better (it's starts a beautiful way of a melody that still has to find the exact chords it wants to play (good example of this are the last 10 seconds of 'out there somewhere part I' and then the *beautiful* beginning of 'out there somewhere part II' by Orbital (to be found on 'Insides'))), and the drums sound better in the old version (especially the clap with reverb is very good).
My advice: keep the old one intact, tighten up the bassdrum (keep it as loud, but make it less appearant by a lowpass filter that cut offs the higher freq's), and make that a 192kbit/44khz version.
Another advice: Boards of Canada - Geodaddi. If you like the track by SlicerXXL, you'll *love* this album.

Foooohooook! This is also amazingly beautiful! Can you also make a 192kbit/44khz version of this one and place it online? Been listening Foundation of the storm, South Asia and Naiad for days now, and I want high-q versions!

He he... I am still honored by your enthousiasm. Unfortunately I accidently removed my old version of the MT2 foundation song. Planning on finding that one, but I currently only have the new version. (I agree with you that the old one is a bit better) Hopefully I'll find it on my HD very soon. A High quality version is no problem (because I have a better WAVE file in 44Khz), but reducing the base could be a bit difficult. I'll keep trying for you, nevertheless...
I like South Asia also.. I'll put a better version online as soon as possible. ( You give me a lot of work ) |

Ok.. I found the old Madtracker file of Foundation of the Storm. Better Mp3 version will be online tomorrow . Tomorrow? Yes....
Because:

There's a time for listening, and one for sleeping. Check the time, and guess my choice.
|
And my ADSL is not working I am currently online on my modem.. So... Tomorrow it will be... (It is 9mb 265kb/s 44000 kHz - should be enough!)
P.S: I also had a great idea for a new song today.. Hopefully I will have that new idea up & running too tomorrow. (Altough, I have to do some homework ) |

If you have room for a HQ mp3 of Naiad, could you make one? I really like that one, and can't wait to hear a mastered high quality version! And forget what I said about the bassline, I was listening on a bad set of headphones. On my stereo system, it sounds awesome! But still I would like to hear another bassdrum with a little more attack, that will fit in much better. There are yet enough songs which have a far too loud TR909 bd, and would like to hear this song to do better than that.
The song just rulez on a set of good speakers and a very big subwoofer! More of this!
Greetz,
Big Mo.
p.s. I just happened to discover this p2p tool, WinMX (which really is much better than Kazaa), that could be a way to send me yer MT2 of Naiad?
You can download it at www.winmx.com if you want. |

Well I'm using both KazaaLite and WinMX now, problem with the Kazaa engine is that it will completely drain yer memory, even faster when you use the built-in player. And it can only search on one supernode, so searching is much slower.
Haven't yet discovered spyware in WinMX, but will run Ad-Aware tomorrow, thanx for the warning.
Oh and NEVER use MSN Messenger for files over 10MB, because of limited upload speed it will take ages for a 50MB file, as Slicer's MT2 of Naiad is. And as Messenger has a habit of disconnecting when yer download is almost ready (48 MB and that sort of things), not a good idea.

For file exchanging you could also use soulseek, which has a contact list like napster used to have. And it allows to check people's shared folder. check it out @ www.slsknet.org |
