Midi connection question

Having never used a keyboard with midi capability, I see some with normal midi cable connection.
Others have midi using USB cable.
Any difference in performance or is one better than other?
Any help would be appreciated.

usb is only for transferring .mid tracks.

midi cable is for transporting realtime midi data eg. note strikes, knob tweaks.

I don't support Elijah's message there.

Take for instance

http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Keystation88es-main.html

Looks like a midi keyboard to me. But hey! It only has a USB connector! Smile

I don't know anything about differences in performance between these two. Thing is that midi-ports get pretty obsolete, and most modern midi keyboards work on the basis of USB.

Only 80GB HDD as standard, that won't last long... Rolling Eyes Otherwise it sounds like a pretty neat piece of equipment to have in the rack Very Happy

And at the guaranteed lowest price of $4,995, how could you go wrong?

I mean, apart from the "$4,995 to buy masterful keyboard" part.

Anyone here giving away $4,995 for no particular reason, with no catch, consequence, repayments, or anything of the sort whatsoever?

Is there a reason you need USB MIDI?

If you're not a pro keyboardist, then you don't really need a $600 61-key or a $5k 88-key workstation MIDI controller keyboard. USB should work well, although I don't have a MIDI keyboard using that bus protocol. The old MIDI standard uses a bandwidth that's less faster than USB. Note, MIDI is a type of LAN.

You can find lower-priced controllers here... http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=key/search?sc=price&so=asc&c=4707&so=asc&sc=price

You can try the 37-key eKeys offered there (these are mini keys, not fullsize).

Or try Creative's Prodikeys (again, mini-keys) which is a piano and typewriter keyboard combination... http://www.prodikeys.com

Otherwise, I recommend fullsize keys (since I don't like mini's).
