The project would be the following:
One compilation CD (or a double-CD) with both the MT2 files of the compo and the best ones as audio tracks.
The price of the compilation would be as low as possible, and a part of it would be send to the artists.
For this project, I will need a couple of people for the mastering and maybe also to check with the authors to make the tracks better for mainstream listening. (I.e. make it shorter, re-arrange the structure a bit, etc.)
But before starting this, I need to know if you will be ready to buy it. Hence this poll...

It all depends of the target that the release of such a cd would have. If it is to promote the yearly compo, I would think that this is a fairly good idea. If the main purpose is to promote MT though, I wouldn't do it. We all know that a certain amount of entries is of low quality, and hence not very suitable to change someone's opinion about Madtracker. For promoting this program, you would do better by compiling a cd with the very best Madtracker songs around, spanning a vast area of musical styles. Combine the musical efforts of Pjo, Enigmatic, Sunbuster, Andy, Szartd, Myztique and whoever is out there creating quality songs in this program, pick out the 15 best, master the album, and use it as a way to change people mind's about a tracker.
I would maybe buy the cd in its original format, but only because of my affiliation with this scene. If I want the music, I could also just download it, delete the crappy tunes, and burn my own cd.
Conclusion: think about the aim/goal/target of such a release, and work towards that point.

Like Inge said, I think we need to know what the target here is first. Promote the compo or promote the program, or would it just be a memory for the people who participated? |

This project would be to promote the compo and the artists. I would also consider it as another prize for the winners. Having your song on a CD is still something nice...
(The first time I put my music on CDR, I was like jumping of joy... )
However, the idea of having a CD featuring the cream of MT2 artists would also be a nice idea. Perhaps a chance to have some big collaboration between thoose artists? We may discuss about this later...

well, If it's for promotion of the compo, then why not. I don't think it would cost too much if you put the top 10 on the CD as audio for instance, get someone to do the mastering on those, and then put the rest of the submissions as original mt2's on there (and a copy of the free version of mt2 of course ). Especially if you don't burn a whole bunch up front, but burn the CD's as the orders come in. Most of the work on the actual CD content could probably be done with the help of people on here (cover art, mastering etc). I for instance, would be more than happy to help out any way I can |

If I do this, this would be pressed CD's. I'd make 500 or 1000 depending on the price.

I like the generall idea but in my eyes it's a bit to late to do all this now. Maybe for next compo (if there will be one) so that all artists also can prepare themself and work from the fact that the music they make may have a chance to end up on pressed cd's. This way I also think there would be more high quality stuff in the compo and therefor also a better cd and better promotion for madtracker. By now I think most people have the top entries already and therefor not that interested in the cd as they would have been just some weeks after the compo. well, that's jus my opinion though I find the cd a really awesome thing to do. |

Yes, very good point.
Especially if you consider the time to organize this properly... It'll be finished by the time the next compo has started.
I wish I had more time to organize this months ago.
So let's say this poll is for the next compo.

Hang on, for the next compo?
So, if for some reason the winning vote is no, will that mean no next compo?
Eep! |

noooouuu, that means no compo-cd, not no compo
But to get back to business, pressing 500 cd's ain't that cheap, are you sure you want to put down that kind of money on something that "maybe" sells?
But like TOffe said, maybe a bit too late for the previous compo, planning ahead for the next compo would be better... So when's the next compo?

Sorry, your evil twin spirit 606xxaD, that wants you to get credit for everything, got a hold of me and told me to write Daxx there. I've now cast a spell to ban said spirit from my domain
It should say TOffe of course, I'll correct that right away |
