Posted: Sun Jan 16 2005 22:22 Problem: Pressing a key to insert a note |
|
[When I press the any keys on the keyboard, for example "Q" to get a C, I only hear the sound, but the note doesn't come up in the pattern editor so I can see it.
This is critical, cause it means that I can't make music with MT2.50 RC5.
In MT2.32 I would have solved this problem with the option Sample note detection off. But this doesn't seem to have any effect on this version of MT. So what should I do? |

You are sure you are in recording mode (the round red button on top is pressed) AND you have the pattern editor focused (press F12 to focus it)? |

Another problem can be that you have multichannel edit on. check if the box with MCE next to it (to the right) is checked. if so, uncheck it.

Now I've unchecked it, and it works fine. Thanks. But what should I do if I want to use multichannel edit? |

you should record enable the tracks you want to record on then. for that i think you should rightclick the trackname (in pattern view), it should turn red then. i think you can also right click the oscillators of the tracks you want to record on. |
what is hip?

I tried to rightclick the track name, it works. But you still have to edit one track at a time. What's the use then?
I thought you maybe could edit all the tracks which are red at the same time, or that you could put in many notes in the same track. And I also wonder, are multitrack and multichannel the same thing? What's the differences?
I cannot understand the idea about these two? What are they for? Do I need them? |

multi-channel/track editing is usefull when you record something live, a pianomelody for instance. As you may or may not know madtracker has 4 polyphony channels per track, meaning you can have four sounds playing at the same time in one track without them interfearing with each other. A piano playing a rapid melody and having a semi-long decay time could have a lot more sounds going simultaneously. If you don't spread this out on several tracks, then the piano will sound chopped, as the first note playing will get cut by the 5th note playing due to there only being 4 poly channels. This is where multi-channel editing comes in. You activate it, then select the tracks you want to record to, then go into recording mode and hit play. As the patterns play you can now start playing your piano and madtracker will enter notes in all tracks you've selected for recording in a turn-based manner. Meaning first note goes into track 1, second into track 2 third into 3 and so on.
Hope that clarified some |

Thanks. Now I think I understand what I should use multitrack editing to. It sounds quite useful actually. I'm going to use it with my synth. But can you use it with regular samples maybe? If so, I would like an explanation of how that is done? |

yup no problem
Load the sample and do as sunbuster said. if you want to record live, you can use the keyboard to play the melody.
