 |
Finaly i had some time to work on my Yazoo (extreme situation) "project".
I did some serious work on the beat (bassdrum and total groove, feedback from a previous release) Now i think i have to work more on the mastering part, i'm not quit happy with it .. yet..

I hope you're not confusing mastering with mixing. Mastering is something completely different from applying effects to- and volume balancing each of the instruments. It should be left til the very end, and ideally done by someone other than yourself.
For a mixdown though, this sounds quite spot on. The only major sore point is the crash cymbal, and I highly suggest you turn this down by a good couple of dB's.
Your bass is also a little on the loud side, but this is something that can be evened out during mastering, if you were to do this.
Turning the vocal up a bit probably also couldn't hurt (only 0.5 dB or so though, or less).
I'd also suggest to 'open up' the sound of the detuned synth, particularly by boosting it around 3 kHz. Giving your hihats a more gritty sound here might be favourable too, no?
Lastly, the kick would probably work better (and for mastering as well) if it were a touch louder, like +0.5 dB, give or take a few 0.1 dB's. Maybe try boosting it around 100 Hz a bit to let it shine out from under the bass.
For the rest, I'd say the mixdown is ready for mastering. Not quite sure what exactly you're not happy with, but it sounds very clean to me. |

Oh, and one final thing: Reduce your master volume by about 4 to 5 dB. Mixdowns should peak no higher than -3.0 dB prior to mastering. |
