After trying a whole load of other music software, I discovererd MadTracker.
I really love this program, and this is my first song entirely made in it.
Hope you'll enjoy it! Smile

hmmmm interesting. this sounds like early detroit techno, i dont know whether that was intentional or not.
As a first tune this isnt bad. I remember when i first started on trackers i really struggled just getting to grips with all the controls and effects, and this sounds pretty similar to my early tracks.
perhaps something to do would be to work on the structure. work out an intro, a refrain, a chorus and an outro. (i usually start out with the chorus and develop everything around that).
try figuring out vst's, i guess from the sound that you didnt use any. check out the vsti's first then start working with effects;

the built in effects in madtracker are awesome so check those out (my personal favourite being stereo delay).
also listen to some commercial music of the genre you want to emulate to give you an idea of structure and the general sound.
also download a few of the mt2's to see how effects and structure are done.

as i said though, for a first go its not bad, and my early efforts sounded pretty similar (im not doing too badly now!).
I hope ive been of some help to you.

cheers

That would be *very* early Detroit, since I don't immediately hear the Joey Beltram-bells ringing in my head.

Anyway: with bigandymac. For a first track it's not bad, but once you got to your fifth track, you'll hate your first one.

I think, actually, that with some proper beat programming (hard driving bassdrum, rough leadsynth, furious hi-hats) this would become rather Joey Beltram'ish. Check out his latest album (the Rising Sun has *such* massive techno-anthems on it!) and hear what I mean.

[bigandymac: yes, okay, you apparently were right a bit after all Wink]
