Music section - writing reviews

Today I had to remove a number of reviews in the Music-section of madtracker.org again, since they consisted of utterances such as 'I like it!', 'great!' or (my personal favourite) '
Quote:

Your review must be USEFUL for the author of the song.
.

Reviewing music is really appreciated a lot by everyone (since it helps greatly for the artist to know how to improve and what is already working, and for listeners to separate the good from the bad), but atleast some argumentation is needed to make this work. Therefore, please, write down some words to explain why you give the rating you give!

Thanks in advance,
Inge

I just want to say I think the reviewing system should be improved, it's limited as it is. I would like something like a 1-10 system. Is there such plans?

As for what Inge said: I agree.

I've heard various 'rumours' from Yannick about respawning the music section, but these so far have remained rumours Wink

Great post and soo true ...

Maybe it's an idea to have a mp3 or ogg section as well.
Some of the MT songs are (nowerdays) made with (non free) VSTi's.

The problem would be the check if it's really made with madtracker Confused

I think the rating system could be better, too. I prefer more shades of grey - for example, I think there's too much of a gulf between a 'good', or 'very good' rating (or an average or 'could do better', rating.)
The rating systems that were from 1 to 5 stars (with the ability to add half stars) appeal to me most, perhaps because that's what I was used to with Hornet archive.

I'd like a section for music just created using the basic Madtracker with no VSTs used. Perhaps ones no bigger than 5 MB.

maybe a new section is not necessary for this just an improved search function for the already existing one. tho this would require making the upload form become more informative from this point of view (are there vsts, are they free, etc).

That sounds even better.

when i was first getting used to madtracker the mt2s people uploaded were really useful for learning how to do things. setting up an mp3/ogg upload section would maybe reduce the number of people who do this which would be bad for new users i think.
but definately a slightly beefed up review section would be good.

I will probably add Ogg support in the music section later, but it'll be only to accompany existing MT2. This would only be to offer an alternative for the listener.
