Maybe the "arpeggio-chip" chords are a bit too much, but the nice vocals makes up for it.
I also find the tamburine a bit to loud throughout the song, especially in the "break" at 3:57 where I find it shining out of the mix, but I guess that is a matter of personal taste.

I disagree on the "arpeggio-chip"-part. In my opinion it brings a bit more character to the piece, and at least on my speakers it doesn't shine through the mix. You have to actually listen a bit to hear it.
Then, i agree on "tambourine"-part, it is a bit too loud for my taste. Maybe some variation to the volume throughout. It doesn't hurt to occasionally burst out of the song.
Overall, so far, this is my favourite one of the Compo pieces. Mainly because of the sad feeling it carries. Everyone has to interpret the lyrics as they please and through their own experiencies and I guess my experiences make me interpret them to the worse. I keep thinking "did the girl die?" How can you stay proud with your face in the mud, surrounded by your personal monsters? My guess is, as also hinted above, that the lyrics tell something about the author as well.
Well enough babbling I guess. |

Thank you very much for your feedback! It's nice to read that you actually like it ..
About the tambourine-part; and all other mixing issues, you're right ofcourse. It's always hard to get balance in a mix that suits everybody and every system, but the more you mix the better you will get that balance!
About the lyrics; yes, some parts are very personal, other parts are "just" reflections of things I think about.
